Today I wanted to go from Prtovč to Ratitovec. But the road from Železniki towards Prtovč is so icy that you can't get up without chains (almost). We (like many others) unfortunately had to turn back, but it was quite adrenaline-pumping driving on that ice. So, at least until it warms up a bit, I don't recommend this starting point without chains (or maybe at least 4x4 drive).

I confirm that the warning about the icy road is quite appropriate.
If the road is empty, good tires on the car and no one coming from the opposite direction, then it goes. But if anything of that fails, or you have to start again, you're screwed. Verified today when two cars of random hikers got stuck and pushing didn't help. They didn't have chains.
The problematic part is mainly above the turnoff for Podlonk.

Now it will be even more slippery because of the thaw.
In Davča there are icy sections along the road edges, ice balls of 1m diameter instead of stream from the wall.

Yesterday the road to Prtovč was drivable without problems. The last part a bit icy but salted.

Yesterday there were quite a few of us up there, ja. I went up and down via Razor. As for the path conditions, Tinky has written it all. If there hadn't been a slight breeze on top, it would have been kitschy. Views finger-licking.
Tinky, it seemed to me that I saw you up there yesterday. First we met under the hut (you down, me up), then at the Prtovč parking.

If anyone hiked there in the last days, please report conditions on the path via Povden. Very icy? Avalanche danger? Because for the weekend I might go up that way, but I only have crampons. Down of course via pl. Razor.

Today morning up via Povden and down via Razor past the hunting hut. The path via Povden is dry, via Razor there is still quite some snow, in shady parts also ice, so be careful where you step. On top much has melted already, more bare ground than snow. Today very warm, hut thermometer showed 10 degrees Celsius in the shade and almost no wind.
