No snow and ice, not even in the gully. You most need to watch on the ascent to Okrešelj, because in the gorge it's damp and wet, and early morning -2C, and slightly frozen. Up in the rock though excellent conditions. I recommend while the weather is still like that!

Today from Kamniška Bistrica I spotted ibex below Skuta that were crossing the snowy scree field.

Maybe it's the same family that I also spotted today below Grintovec

What *stari znanec* marked on his picture I don't recognize anyway, but definitely *urbann* photographed chamois and not ibexes, maybe it would be good to learn a bit how these animals look in nature.

Chamois are, chamois. Ibex is more similar though.... No way Zlatorog, that one is actually more similar to chamois, which is evident from the attached photos too

I didn't insist at all that the old acquaintance is talking about ibexes. Definitely chamois yeah probably fled from the increasing crowd on the path to Grintovec summit in the morning hours.

Yesterday (Sat. 5.2.2011) visited Skuta, in winter less visited, therefore all the more beautiful. Conditions very good, only the wall in Štruca was a bit softened and sinking a little, the roof ideal. On the way back also to Dolgi hrbet, where the ridge was nicely firm and trodden. For a pleasant descent we skied off the ridge edge past the bivouac, the gully before Vratci we did with crampons.

@stari znanec and IgorZlodej: what s.z. saw under Skuta were really probably ibexes, since chamois don't go to those areas often. At least since ibexes multiplied again around Grintovci. Of course I'm not saying I might not be wrong, since it's photographed from afar and can't be distinguished exactly - speaking purely from experience

Ibex or chamois, that's the question now: for help: sheep are similar to ibex, goats similar to chamois, chamois are on "Laško beer" labels, after a few beers then chamois on urban's pics can be called ibex too p.b.z. LPP

Maybe someone knows what the conditions are like in this area, how much new snow? Tomorrow I plan to go to that end, Grintovec or Skuta. Thanks for the information

I haven't been there, but I assume about half a meter of new snow. On the path there's high avalanche danger!

After heavier precipitation it was mostly dry on Thursday during the day, only in Bovec area up to 30 cm snow fell by this morning, snow line above 1500 m, freezing level around 1900 m. New snow settled and below snow line melted. Due to high air humidity it transformed faster too. In Julian Alps at 2500 m up to around 430 cm snow, at 1500 m up to around 120 cm. Most snow in Posočje. Elsewhere in our mountains at 1500 m up to 10 cm snow. Snow is light and soft, below snow line soaked from rain. Lots of drifts. Avalanche danger in western Julians and Bohinj hills above around 1800 m 4th degree, danger is high and general. Expect spontaneous avalanching from steeper slopes. Elsewhere in our mountains avalanche danger 3rd degree, only lower where little snow 1st degree. Avalanche can trigger already with minor snow cover load mainly on steeper slopes and wind slab spots, also possible individual spontaneous avalanches from steep enough slopes. Lower where it rained, wet snow avalanche can trigger on steep slopes. Today still cloudy and foggy with minor precipitation. Up to 5 cm snow can fall, snow line around 1500 m above sea level. Saturday and Sunday dry and gradually sunnier. Night to Sunday cooling, freezing level drops to around 1100 m. North and northeast wind strengthens, carrying snow into drifts. Snowpack will settle and transform, avalanche danger will gradually decrease a bit. Due to new drifts despite reduced spontaneous triggering potential danger remains high mainly in high mountains and western Julians. Next report issued Monday, March 21. General avalanche danger is 4th degree on European five-grade scale. Source: ARSO Anything else to add?

today went a bit higher than Cojzova hut, up to Cojzova snow peels off a lot, so descent was difficult. Higher up it's frozen. In my opinion there wasn't much avalanche danger. Then fog rolled in and ......

You're really something..., if according to you there was no danger... And to Skuta it wasn't far anymore... ouch

according to your opinion... On ARSO page it says in red, ok for Julians, but elsewhere only III. But important is that according to your opinion. You all are avalanche experts in a row nothing to add, why not wait for 5th degree and prove you can reach SP even with spontaneous triggering if you're just "tough" enough?!
