Even lower-lying hills, like Smrekovec, can offer wonderful panoramic views far around on clear days and create a pleasant mountain treat for the soul and eyes. With its various approaches it allows everyone from youth to old age to recharge energy here; we started from Sp. Brložnik on Saturday; wonderful path, this time colored with beautiful autumn colors, which in the initial grassy section slightly speeds up the pulse, then calms the step on the scarlet-colored path through the forest section to the hut and again with a bit of steepness to the wide, panoramic summit, adorned with crystals of the last patches of first snow. The hut and surroundings show the care, diligence and cleanliness of the current caretakers, the friendliness and homeliness of the staff unequivocally confirm that you are welcome and come again. Best regards

NIGHT TRAVERSE OF SMREKOVEC RIDGE

From Slemen, we walk on the road for a while then turn onto the forest path. Underfoot rustles leaves, which in some places are quite thick. At Kramarce we step back onto the road, which we follow all the way to the hut on Smrekovec. Here we take time to change some gear and provide additional reserves of supplies. On the ridge, temperature differences and windy areas alternate for us. All together it doesn't spoil our good mood. At Vodul pasture, we pack away the headlamps, so our mood rises. At Javorje pasture the sun greets us. Time to the hut at Loki passes quickly.

Today in wonderful weather on Smrekovec...
To make everything perfect, the beautiful view took care, namely to the Austrian peaks, where Grossglockner, Hochalmspitze and other friends displayed their appearance...
Almost impossible, but true!
Grossglockner is 183 km away from the summit!

Sunday afternoon on Smrekovec, from Brložnik. Of course no snow, but the path is a bit muddy instead.nasmeh
At the summit a strong wind was blowing and chasing mists here and there so such pictures were created:

Bbrina, nice photos that captured the weather variety of the hike, especially Friday, which really shines in the otherwise more gray-cloudy day. nasmehmežikanje

Car parked at the turnoff to Kugovnik. Further unsalted and smooth..
At the hut -8C and sunny. Snow from 10 to 15cm (powdery snow).
Past the KZ Šoštanj hut and then along the ridge. Before Krnes we descend to Black Lake. Ice is thick and you can walk on the lake. Then back past the hunting hut, Kugovnik and to the starting point. Altogether almost 14km and for cck. 4.30min walking.
best regards

Since the meeting was postponed due to poor weather forecast for western Slovenia, I decided to head more towards the east.
Smrekovec was quite the right choice yesterday, as the weather was relatively nice, only fog on the summit. I started the path at the source of Ljubija, or some 10 meters lower at the water intake, then ascended through Ljubijski graben and via Leskovškova pustota to Smrekovec.
I descended via the road that joins the path through Ljubijski graben below the Leskovšek farm.
The ascent path is normally passable, as snow starts only about 15 minutes before the place where it joins the marked path, which is well trodden. The path I descended is more snowy and wasn't trodden, so parts of the path sank quite a bit.
Best, Tadej

To Komna and back

I was curious about snow conditions, so I took a quick look. At certain spots there's still plenty of wind-packed snow, which in the morning mostly holds a mountaineer's weight.
At this altitude there is still snow1
There is still some snow on the meadows too2
In shady spots, still a thick blanket3
If it holds the weight of the hiker, no problems4
I did see something alive after all5

From Andrejev dom, across Smrekovsko pogorje to Loka.
For joining the -24 club and repeaters we hiked this path. To the hut we went in the dark, when getting ready to continue it dawned and we no longer needed headlamps. Of course the whole path is dry and almost obstacle-free. Despite very cloudy weather it didn't rain, but we were wet from our own sweat.
Here we leave the road1

This morning I was on Smrekovec, hut closed though.
In the morning I check PZS if the hut is open yet, and it says OS (permanently open) but sadly it wasn't.. I wasn't the only one wondering, there were several hikers up there in the morning, including Italian tourists..
Well that's our tourism.. Shamecool

Up on the calendar it's marked it's open only from June on.

Otherwise I'm for roasting such things, because writing it's open, operating, running,... but in reality not, is unique Slovenian tourist fuckery unmatched in Europe.

But in this case it doesn't apply, true we don't go to mountains primarily for open huts.
