Hi,

soon we are planning to go to Stol. There are many described paths, but still from first hand I'm interested which is really the most suitable..

You can do a circular path from Valvasor (up Žirovniška and down Zabreška)

No views from top, but weather ideal for walking.

Mountain cranberry ...
Murka - black murka which is protected, Kamniška murka is lighter in color and not protected. I admit, I haven't met black murka yet.
Did you at least smell it?nasmeh

Right, if you go down the Zabreška path a bit off the path on the meadow, there's plenty of Črna murka. We were also on this route over the weekend and, due to numerous flowers, were first incredulous that it was even Črna murka, but convinced ourselves at home later. There are really loads of them.

I'm interested in what condition the road to Valvasorjev dom is in, or if it's possible with a car with lowered suspension.

Quite torn up, especially on some parts strongly rutted (corrugated). No problem for SUVs, passenger cars somehow bump over all ruts. With lowered suspension might be problem. Also some deep cross ditches.
All depends how much you pity your carvelik nasmeh

THEN BETTER LEAVE CAR IN VALLEY AT ZAVRŠNIŠKO LAKE. THAT'S HOW THEY WENT BEFORE TOO. AT SAME TIME AT LEAST FEEL YOU'VE CLIMBED REAL MOUNTAIN

I was on Stol on 22 July. The road is rutted 80% to Valvasorja. With my Superb despite that I safely drove to Valvasorja and saved some time. Try, if you don't turn around and park at Zavrniško lake, but calculate that it lengthens the tour by a good hour. LPnasmeh

Since I had to abandon the Kamniške wish due to snow, I set off to Stol yesterday morning.
Despite strong wind and unfriendly 0 degrees for the last August day, the circular tour via Žirovniška gora and Zabreška dol was wonderful.
Best regards.
First snow at 1800m1
View towards the saddle2
Last part of the path. Approx. 5 cm of snow.3
Kozjak is also covered in snow..4
Ljubljana basin is flooded.5
Probably he didn't understand what I was doing up there.6
On the descent you can see it's not yet autumn. Livestock is still grazing on the mountains.7
The fog in the valley has also evaporated.8
In front of Valvasor it was nicely warm.9

Decision made relatively late. At half past two at the start. "Well, you'll pull this off" I mumble. I did to the best of my abilities too... In 45 minutes already at "prižnica" sipping winter-reddish orange mix I prepared at home. "Yeah this will be fine", I tell myself, mainly interested in conditions "up there". Soon found out... Wind! Such strong wind that some gusts would knock me flat if I didn't crouch, hm?! what that meanseek, snow blown off, ground frozen! And so it was, from start of couloir (scree before saddle) to top optimal conditions for walking, of course with full winter gear, now someone asks?! axe and crampons needed, most know my answer, so I'll just say... Rucksack won't be heavier because of that and dot. In short, speedy afternoon, tour done in three hours (ascent+descent)nasmeh Road home is one big poetry (potholesjezen) so you sway in rhythm. Conditions: track made, highlight only traverses which can be dog-like, advise early departure when ground still firm!, winter gear (all!) Can be veeeeeery cold, especially if wind pulls ane Heinz?mežikanje
It was super!

Cheers
I would sit, but there was no wood...1

Regarding the last snowfall, I had to check it with my own eyes and "legs", and the day was something special todaynasmeh. I took the plowed road to Valvazor and headed towards the summit. Soon it started dawning and the views were getting prettier and prettier. The path is well trodden, the snow completely varied, sometimes hard crust that breaks under weight, sometimes hard snow, sometimes pure powder that you grind like..., sometimes ideal for walking and despite all winter gear I alone didn't need it today. The summit was a pure fairy tale, no wind and offered views to squeal about. At the hut obligatory sunbathing and martinčkanje and there was no reason to go to the valley. It was a very nice daynasmeh

Since the forecast was still nice, I jumped to Stol yesterday (Saturday). A bit after half seven, start from in front of Valvazor. Path, as rozka already described, trodden, snow very varied, in lower part wet, southern (already thermal inversion influence), only on more exposed spots and towards summit firmer. Crampons stayed in backpack, regarding wind it blew only on summit, so I quickly descended to valley. Quarter past nine at Valvazor, parking full, accordingly I met hikersnasmeh Regards

Twice I was on Stol, first time from Ljubelja past Zelenica. Most tiring was at the end, over scree. Second time from Koroška Bela past Ajdna and Valvazorjeva hut upwards. It exhausted me badly. Slept over in hut, next morning to summit and then along ridge, then descent to Javorniški rovta and to valley by bus. Though tired, my soul was screaming with joy. They say third time lucky. Good luck!
