Today I observed stol, almost no snow on the top.

Well, let me tell you one piece of info if you find yourself in a situation where you'd need crampons but don't have them and where you are it's very slippery. If you have an extra pair of socks put them over your boots, tested and it works. Of course this doesn't mean it's a replacement for crampons

In a situation where I'd need crampons but don't have them, I turn back. Twice I flew nicely on the snow and barely stopped, then sense came to me. Actually I rarely turn back because I always have gear with me. Or rather, I turn due to conditions and not because I lack gear for them.

This morning I went to Prešeren Hut. Most of the time quite foggy, every now and then it opened a bit. Down I went straight through the gully between Big and Little Stol. Snow stops here about 100 vertical meters above Prižnica.

This morning again to Prešeren Hut. Snow starts at ca. 1300m. When you get out of the bushes it's annoyingly postholing for a while, then along the ridge to the hut mostly hard windblown snow. Bigger rocks still sticking out. Today the views were a bit better than last time.

When I read your discussions and explanations about safety, I'd like to raise one issue that's been bothering me since October. An acquaintance told me this story that happened to him end of October. He wanted to traverse the entire Kosuta ridge, from V. Vrh to T. Kosuta. He left his car at farmer Matizovec, climbed via Kovce to V. Vrh and in 8 hours reached Kosutnikov Turn. There it started. A strong storm with rain and lightning hit him. Soaking wet he ran to the cabin on Dolga Njiva pasture. The cabin was locked, so no safe shelter. Since he planned to return same day, which wasn't possible anymore. My question. Why is there no mountain bivouac or small shelter on Dolga Njiva pasture where one could overnight in emergency. We've discussed this many times with friends. Karavanke are already so sparsely dotted with huts, but URGENTLY a shelter should be built on Dolga Njiva. It would also be great if Prešeren Hut had a winter room. Every mountaineer who visits these Karavanke peaks knows there's nowhere to seek refuge in emergency. Maybe the mountaineering association responsible for this area will wake up and build a wooden hut on Dolga Njiva. Many mountaineers will thank them. Good luck and safe steps

Today I headed for Stol but turned back due to avalanche danger and cuz it was postholing to the waist just above Prižnica.

Today Stol also had quite some visitors, weather-wise nothing to add, even the wind was resting. Otherwise the path is well trodden, only to "prižnica" it's quite hard-icy, so be careful especially on descent. If anyone wants to visit Stol in winter conditions now is the right time Lp

As the predecessor wrote, conditions for ascent are excellent. Snow is dry and frozen, when walking almost nothing sinks. For lower part to prižnica small crampons are right
