Yes, žirovniška is o.k. No need to go in the gully between both S., because before the gully or. when it offers itself, go nicely to the right, as on the classic žirovniška. That means you'll cross only about 20-30 m (right at the start of that part). I thought to cross later-higher, but it turned out better to continue in the gully. Back from Prešeren h. down, no problem (as Pajk already said) - snow can easily be avoided. No crampons needed, only smart = slower! Zabreška from above down looks still a bit snowy. LP Heinz!

On Thursday I was on the Stol, went via the Žirovniška path. Despite some snow overnight, it had already melted by noon, patches only between the Stols. The weather served me well, so the view was very nice too. Yeah, and the pollen still isn't

Thank you very much! It sounds and looks promising. Maybe someone knows how the Zabreška trail is? E.g. Žirovniška for ascent and Zabreška for descent.

Hello, we would go on Tuesday to the Stol, but do you have any news on the conditions? Sorry for my Slovenian. Best regards Ivo

Today I was on Stol. The trail is completely dry, snow is only just below the summit in that valley. The trail is steep all the way. The view was very nice. To all who haven't been to Stol yet, plan it as soon as possible and go up. You can drive by car without problems to the hut (Valvasorjev dom)

I was on Stol on Sunday and there was a very nice view of the Slovenian hills and Austrian hills.

Can someone tell what the connection between Stol and Begunjščica (past Roblekov dom) is like, if the trail is marked, if not whether one can orient normally, and how long it takes approx?!? Thanks

Today it's about 5 hours. The trail is well marked.

Stol is great and not tiring (depending on fitness) and I'll sit on it this weekend, but everyone beware - if it has hat - clouds don't go close, because it thunders a lot and it comes from Austria, you don't hear or notice it at all. It just appears over the edge. Enjoy safely.

I agree with neni about the hat; last August rain suddenly soaked us and lightning flashed around us, though the forecast was nice weather and at the start in the morning it was somewhat clear; we were really soaked to the skin, since a heavy downpour hit us in the last third in the rocks; even anoraks didn't help, so it was all the more fun in the hut when we dried ourselves by the stove and listened to the accordion sounds that young, also fully soaked hikers stretched out.

We started from the "sawmill" in front of Tinčkov dom to Roblek, Begunjščica, to Zelenica and from the hut at the source of the Zaviršnica to Stol. Descent to Zabreška planina, but we wanted to go directly to the sawmill via an unmarked path, but we weren't sure where to turn, so we went to Tinčkova koča and back to the car. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether we should have turned right at the junction (after about an hour of walking) onto the cart track; the marked path goes left uphill there.

During the week too? I mean, can you get a stamp inside?

Yesterday I was up there and the hut is open. Check PZS site - huts - list of huts. There it says for each hut when it's open and contact person's phone. I think on Stol it's open all days of the week. LP

The path that took us third time to Stol summit - starting point Ljubelj, is quite interesting, nicer, of course also longer than Žirovniška and Zabreška. At the top bunch of visitors, real crowd.
