On Saturday, 26.09., I was on Stol. All fog, almost no sun rays, still it was nice. Just a shame the Prešernova hut is no longer open. Oh, and also, recommend ascent via Žirovnica and descent via Zabreška. We went the other way, and down it was too steep . We know for next time.

It was the same on Sunday. Ascent to forget, in short.

It's really not pleasant on the top in fog, but that can be predicted already in the valley, unless the fog appears suddenly, which is very rare, so... blame the weather forecasters for bad predictions.

The summit of Stol is unusually often shrouded in fog. No doubt about that. It can be clear all around, the top part of Stol will be in the clouds. Despite my numerous ascents of Stol via Zabreška, I haven't done the descent via Žirovniška yet. I must try it once.

My suggestion. To Stol from Austria. Over Ljubelj into the valley, right towards Medvedji dol. Just before Celovška koča right, over the scree and then into the wall on excellently secured climbing tour. Perfect for a nice autumn day.

Yesterday I went over Zagon along the hunting path almost to Šija and then on the lower path to Stol. I also saw yellow markers that lead more directly, at the big round marker I preferred to go right over the torrent on a nice unmarked path. Didn't find the hunting hut, think I saw the junction. In Kožne you notice from the left a path that comes via shortcut of yellow markers and indeed I see another yellow line. Descent via Zabreška path and then from the pasture left on a nice forest trail to Tinčkov dom. Signs say everywhere only Roblekov dom. Very nice variant and even nicer weather.

Also walking times. To the top of Stol I needed 2:18 h, down to Valvazor 1:27 h. Lp

Mountains in autumn are also close to my heart. Views of other mountains are fantastic if it's a nice day. I have a couple of interesting photos from Stol from last Saturday that I'd like to share with you, but I don't know how to upload them. Can someone please advise.

Hello, I'm interested if someone has been to the summit recently? What are the snow conditions? Also from some nearby summit ok. Thanks for answers! LP

Today- Thursday: approx a bit less than 2/3 of the Valvazor-Stol path is snowy, but a track has been made. In places snow up to 50 cm, noticeable especially lower where it's more wind-blown and sinks a bit. When you reach the little valley between the two Stols, walk on top - that's best. Snow is melting, so path is wet and muddy. Conditions similar to spring. (Today it was even summery hot) Didn't use crampons or no need. Recommend gaiters! Good luck heinz!

Today, on 21.11.09, I was on Stol, the tour was excellent, although it was a bit muddy towards the top because the snow was melting, the temperature was excellent around 15°C just for sunbathing.

These aren't any logs, but firewood for carrying to the Stol hut

For now they're really more logs than firewood. Lots of folks could barely lift a piece, let alone carry it to the hut that's still veeery far.. Probably gonna split 'em more.

Stumps you've got in the back of the pic, front ones are firewood. They're spruce not beech or oak, chestnuts
