A few seconds after I sat back in the car, Pajot and Aljaž and I were still silent, waiting for the culprit of the horrible smells to speak up. You know the hypocrites, tihomirje, sulfur bombs and similar pet names for gas death? When someone rots while alive, so to speak the inverted intestine decays or dries up around it, but due to the laws of chemistry you can't pinpoint the culprit in a full car of people. The gas bomb sneaks hypocritically from all sides and creeps into the nostrils and burns in the lungs...
To Stol and straight from it to Julijce and on to Jezersko.

Trate, Stol, via the climbing path. Weather as unpredictable as lately, which Metod and I felt today too. Up to about 1700m it still promised something, then fog, towards the top gale-force wind. As a bonus just before the hut ice rain, so we arrived at the hut quite soaked. On the climbing path the cables are in good condition but wet, as was the rock. The keepers at Prešeren hut said they haven't seen the sun for a while, only fog, wind, rain and hail. We descended towards Celovška hut to the start. At least on the return the rain spared us.

@tinky or @todi please describe winter conditions in Orlice or on the path from Stol.

Nino, due to fog we didn't go to Celovška spica but via Belščica saddle to Celovška hut. On the descent from Stol there are some snow patches, no problem crossing them without winter gear.

Yesterday's night hike to Stol under full moon - fantastic. It shone so brightly that I didn't need a headlamp for the last part of the trail. Views before dawn - clear and sharp. Sunrise like I've never seen. First it looked like a paraglider with a red chute, then the vivid red sun ball, really stunning. Trail bp, I recommend to all a visit to this mighty one at the next full moon.

My wife wanted to go to Stol and we realized it last week. She was up there for the first time, I for the first time in summer, and we both enjoyed it. We went up via Žirovniška path, down via Zabreška path. Along the way we admired numerous flowers and butterflies, mists added a fairy-tale feel to the event. At the top we were entertained by many ravens, bolder up there.nasmeh At Prešernova hut we tried their goodies and happily went down. At Finžgar rock we admired many edelweiss and other flowers with great view. Of course I couldn't resist building some cairns.velik nasmeh

Today a bit with changed team: Sandi, Dejan and me to Stol, start Trate / Johannsenruhe - Stol (climbing path) 2236m asl. Two months ago snow, rain and wind. Today total opposite: sun, no wind and warm weather. Tons of hikers also from Austrian side on secured path. Wire ropes all in good condition, protections too, recommend, very dynamic trail.

After full moon in July I repeat on 20.8.2016. Although a day after full moon, it was still in full shine. Then on top fantastic indescribable sunrise and good company of four youngsters. On trail two shooting stars, chamois on rock shelf, little angel in rainbow and more and more. In Prešernova hut smiling caretakers, with whom it was nice to chat. Weather pure fantasy...

Today nice circular tour to Stol. Up climbing path, down past Celovska hut. Path well secured, protections in good condition. At top, at time of our arrival thick fog. Hut unfortunately already closed. Many hikers disappointed because of closed hut. Nice regards

Why do we close mountain huts so early? Forecasters predict another ca. 2 weeks nice weather. German Alpenverein closes huts to 2500m end of October.

Hut on Stol should be open until the end of September, but on PZS (hut list) it's listed as closed...no additional explanation.

Whoever came to the top of Stol today around noon was met by fog, a strong northerly wind and a snow shower.
