Struška

Hello!

Since I know you're experienced hikers here, I'd like to ask for the exact route to Struska and if anyone has some pictorial material.
I'm not that experienced myself, I've often been to Golica, Rozica and lower hills nearby, in November I went by road to Belska planina (from Krizovec past Pustega rovta). I know the path continues up to Struska from there, but also that there are no markings to Struska.
I've read the route description on this forum, but first-hand info is always welcome, and a more precise route description too. I'll be very grateful, as I'll know I'll reach the goal and not go thinking "What if I don't find it".

Has anyone been up recently? What are the conditions?

Thanks for answers nasmeh

From Belska planina just nicely up in NE direction and you can't get anywhere else but to Struska summit. Markings are all nicely under snow, so no searching for themmežikanje.
On the map it says Struska is a ridge whose highest peak is Veliki vrh.

Very easy navigation to Struska.
At the start of Jesenice on the road to Javorniski rovt to Dom Pristava. Park there (road ahead usually icy or unplowed) and go steadily on road to first junction (right road goes ahead slightly right under south slopes of Struska towards Medji dol, left road is the correct one to Krizovec. There at cross chapel straight up road to Pusti rovta with hut. From hut follow hay valley of planina ahead where path goes through sparse forest. There road to Pl. Svečica (Belska pl) turns sharply right (barrier). On this forest road ascending crossing south slope of Belščica arrive directly at Belska pl. In between two gullies dangerous for slip on frozen or drifted snow without gear!. Above Svečica hut nicest ridge path on wide Struska ridge. Go from hut straight up, then after 5min left in ditch to summit plateau between Korenščica and Struska (fence water intake). There bit before turn right up to vast ridge follow it bit more on right higher edge (left long basin-hard crossing deep snow). In less than hour see Struska summit with radio container.
Foggy ascent to Struska not recommended any approach.

Biggest thanks for answers, of course I'm glad for them and will be for each! I got to Belska pl., that was my goal that day, next definitely Struska summit.

First time I went up from in front of Trilobita, but it got foggy and cloudy so after two hours back and very disappointed, but still didn't want to push head through wall.

Can't wait for nice weather to finally see beauties of our Gorenjska.

Just a small correction, viharnik. At the first junction you can also go right towards Medji dol. After a few minutes a marked narrower cart track branches left from the road. It later becomes a path and brings you to the lower part of Pusti rovta. The path is trodden and shorter than the one via Križovec. lp Miro

You have done an excellent, solitary tour with the less visited pl. Seča, the peak before Struska is called Zijalke 1875m nasmeh.

Yesterday we went… a bit of powder off the snowshoes to brush… mežikanjenasmeh. It was quite nice that we had them, though it would of course go without too, just a bit more strenuous in places. Conditions were really all sorts, a more detailed description makes no sense because it will be different tomorrow already. Let the photos therefore be more of an invitation for those who so far (like us until yesterday) have gone to Struska only in spring, when its slopes wonderfully bloom and smell… Winter also has its charm up there and winter Struska is wonderful too! nasmeh

GITA - can you go all the way to Struška via the border trail (e.g. from Suha saddle). How is that trail in dry conditions?

@janez.novak, I assume yes, but I don't know that section from Suha saddle to Struška, haven't walked it yet, so I can't give 100% accurate info.

@janez .... you can go to Struška via the border trail. I walked it last summer. Go to Kočna saddle from whichever direction you come and continue on the marked trail to Struška. When you cross the pass (fence) you'll notice tracks above the marked trail. Or put differently ... stick to the far left path. The trail has seen better days but in dry it's followable. It takes you along the ridge behind Korenščica to the plateau. From there you can continue under the ridge on a well visible trail to Struška. If you're interested in more just ask nasmeh

I didn't know what the road to Križevci was like, so yesterday I went just to "check" the condition, then from Križevci I set off on foot for now only to Belska planina, since I left both poles and crampons at home because I just went to "check". Struška will be the next goal.
Walking seemed a bit harder than usual due to soft snow, I sank several times, but it wasn't bad. Around the hut and behind the hut snow and bare patches alternate. It was pleasantly warm, and I didn't meet anyone.

Viharnica, would it be ok for snowshoes to Struška?
like
viharnica10. 04. 2015 17:18:24
I really wouldn't know, because I haven't gone beyond Belska, because I didn't know what the mess is like higher up and whether I need crampons/snowshoes. Maybe it would be smart to have everything with you, as I already said, it was sinking in.
