I also managed the path to Triglav, even though I'm no longer the youngest and that on 21.8. I needed approximately as much time as written on the signs... of course faster ones overtook us, so what, everyone according to their abilities. The joy that I finally succeeded was great. You have to enjoy the beautiful views and not argue!

@mdj sincere congratulations to both, @wanyola congrats to you too, I know that feeling all too well when you're no longer in your tender years and step on the summit for the first time...

hey. I too decided it's high time to head to our daddy. wondering if it's possible/safe to go to Kredarica in hiking shoes (without ankle protection), only from there up in proper mountaineering boots. I have big problems with heel blisters despite broken-in boots and everything that goes with it... thanks in advance for answers. lp

If Bojan Ambrožič can run to Triglav summit in running shoes, then you can get to Kredarica in hiking shoes too, just be a bit more careful not to sprain an ankle.

Bojan Ambrožič is Bojan Ambrožič, who has that many kilometers behind him. teja88: If no other way... hmmm conditionally... but then only the easiest from Krma. The rest is already dangerous especially forget approaches from Vrata... Can't you put on a bandage, patch,.. or something (extra padding)? I walked six days total in Aosta valley and last two days it blistered like hell but I endured.

I don't understand why low shoes would be suitable to Kredarica, but not further. Given there's more climbing above Kredarica, I'd say it's the opposite. Low or high shoes - both (quality ones) have good soles. High ones provide extra support and protection for the ankle. I'd say high boots are more necessary for descents on scree, grass (snakes), gravel,..., crossing snowfields. And of course for those who've had ankle injuries. And with low shoes, rescue in case of injury can unfortunately end badly for us. It would be interesting to know how mountain rescue handles trail running injuries. Who covers the damage since runners don't have high boots? Oops, rambling off-topic again. Sorry.

Abroad, mountain runners, off-trailers, alpinists,... and other adrenaline junkies probably must have extra insurance. Basic covers only normal walking on marked paths (even vias ferratas).

Yes, premiums are probably adjusted to individual disciplines.

Low shoe is fine too, most important is good grip. But if someone thinks high shoe prevents ankle sprain, they're dead wrong. Seen ankle sprains even in high boots. Only safe from ankle sprain in armor or similar high-altitude boots.

Big thanks to all for comments. We're going from Krma, that's why I ask. Of course I always have plasters and other aids with me, but unfortunately my heel "construction" is such that uphill walking makes blisters very, very hard to avoid. Tried several boots and always the same. But I have really good Merrell hiking shoes, which unfortunately don't support ankles, but with them I enjoy walking 100x more.

Last time I went to Triglav too - a bit differently, because of too much crowd, better by air.

Were you with a parachute on 21.8 above Triglav summit? Someone was soaring above us and we cheered him, he shouted back to us MOUNTAIN IS NOT CRAZY...
