Wait a couple weeks, there will be throngs of people up there, you'll even regret it.

Yesterday on Triglav. Start in Vrata, up via Tominškova, down via Prag. The path is normally passable, in principle no winter gear needed. The only snow obstacle on Tominškova path is crossing one snowy gully, between markers 5 and 6. Great caution needed here, as a slip would be fatal. On snow there are good footsteps, so crampons and ice axe not mandatory, but each must assess themselves. Over Prag snow is no obstacle. But the path is still snowy almost entirely a bit further where Prag and Tominškova join, but not obstructive, on return it's even welcome as descent is quick. Ascent to summit without issues, some snow still before entering climbing part. Very few visitors, mostly foreigners - Czechs and some Croats, practically no Slovenes on the path.

Hello... I'm wondering what's the path to Triglav over the lakes like? Does anyone know if it's passable without winter gear or will I have to carry extra weight in the backpack

Extra weight is indeed a problem, especially when you have to add some rescue gear on top of your personal equipment to reach the one carrying an inadequately packed backpack.

I can't imagine at all a responsible mountaineer who goes without ice axe and crampons into high mountains. that's how they taught me some 30 years ago when I started hiking in the hills.

ZeK, if they taught you to hike everywhere in our mountains in July with ice axe and crampons, then they taught you wrong 30 years ago. Of course no one forbids you that. The guy just asked nicely. And I don't know where this allergy to a completely normal question comes from some people.

Yeah, Zek's dad told him like that, but joking on such a serious portal we mustn't .

I sign under the answer of member lukapet. Did the same route a day before, so I can only confirm. Good luck on the way.

The biggest problem is that the mountain rescuer gives stupid answers to serious questions

has anyone hiked through Plemenice these days? It interests me if the path is dry and then past Sfinge through the notch and on to Kredarica.

oh and that...the gentleman is a mountain rescuer??? well mr rescuer, in my backpack there are three kilos just of first aid, splints, suture kit, steri-strips, bandages, 2x foil, folders etc etc and I know how to use all that too, so don't tell me it's hard for me to carry extra three kilos as much as crampons and ice axe weigh. even if I go just to a hill at 600m I always have first aid with me, you never know where you'll need it. otherwise full respect to mountain rescuers, hats off.

3kg? And who the hell are you carrying along, half operating room? Otherwise the answer was perfectly appropriate to the question. I don't doubt the answer would be different if the question was "...is winter gear still needed on the mentioned tour?". Without mentioning extra weight etc. I believe many are joking, but from talks with colleagues/acquaintances I also know it's not that funny when picking up someone who flew over the wall... look from that angle too

Aren't the snowfields now on S sides especially dangerous, compacted hard snow/ice that doesn't soften even during the day and crossing without gear is extremely dangerous. And under it is also dangerous, that it buries you, and sometimes it also avalanches and just question how deep you fall. According to reports there's still meters of snow in places.

I've already scrapped Triglav from Dolič, so no panic. I never go onto ice. Safety first. L.P.

There's still quite some snow, so I recommend you bring winter gear, ice axe and crampons, at least an ice axe is mandatory, and be careful...
