Does anyone have reliable info on the snowfield on Tominsko that Miha V. wrote about on previous page? (supposedly 4m at 70°?!vertical?!) Although I doubt the data is accurate I'm curious if anyone has gone there cuz tomorrow I'm taking a friend who has no snow experience. Thanks in advance

Not that steep, but still dangerous cuz you have to step from rock into snowfield (or vice versa)... the gap gets bigger every day and snowfield edge can break off... If you have ice axe you go through no problem safely, otherwise risk fatal fall. Yesterday there was a whole line of hikers studying what to do. I was outraged when 2 lady hikers said they were told at Aljažev dom the path is passable without winter gear... obviously they haven't been there... Given mass Triglav tourism (don't kid ourselves... now 80% on Triglav are tourists not hikers mountaineers), my opinion is nothing wrong with putting up 10m fixed rope in this transition time to make it safe for all.

Today I checked myself. Won't lecture anyone, but my personal opinion is ice axe alone not enough for that crossing, at least not at 3:30am when snow is fully firm. Agree fall would be fatal. Think slope around under 50°. When they send it I'll add pic too, then each decide if couple 100g crampons in backpack really too much weight.

Regarding snowfield I agree with branee that damn you're through it, but also very similar to 3m snowfield last year on Prisojnik (probably shorter and less steep) where lady fatally slipped. So everyone do what thinks right, messing around not recommended. Just such conditions most dangerous when no time for crampons and cross without. Add heavy backpack, little ice, inexperience on snow and you have accident. That in Aljažev dom they don't know about this crossing and even advised wrong is unacceptable.

I too on Friday 8.7.2016 descended Tominškova path. Regarding snowfield to cross recommend ice axe, true for many crossing small joke but slip there wouldn't end well.

Dejan nice pics congrats on tour. Just tell me if apart from descent to cave ice axe makes sense to carry and how is path between Kredarica and Stanič marked one, I mean snow conditions? Rest clear from pics and text.

Only descent to first cave not needed, but if you want second and esp. see that nice ice art then needed. Must go on ice. From Kredarica to Stanič top trodden path of course marked. Good luck

Today to Triglav in pleasant company starting from Krma and then via Planika and Triglavska škrbina to the summit...descent Kredarica-Stanič-Vrata. Path bp, just a bit less wind and a bit more sun wouldn't hurt

Hi, how's the snowfield on Tominškova? Is there still a lot of snow, do you recommend winter gear?

I think for the path via Tominskova currently no winter gear is needed, there's only one snowfield (in pic by boblak3) and it's currently crossed at the narrowest part (ca 2m and even there good "steps") with some ingenuity you can avoid it too... lp
