To Triglav?

Well I tell them they are idiots so obviously that even I feel bad....

Such guys should not just fine them 1000€ but put them straight in the cooler for a week so they remember for next time.

Because I get scared seeing them above me in snow without gear. Because with this they INTENTIONALLY endanger people around them too.

Once I stopped a Czech girl without gear on Mali Triglav, luck was she was only cca 3m above me because if more question if I wouldn't go a bit flying with her too... Of course she wasn't worried at all and acted like nothing happened...

For me let them go naked up, but when no one else around them couple 100 meters..., but usually they go when everyone does...

With these actions they INTENTIONALLY endanger others and if you ask me it's same as driving drunk on opposite lane.

Maybe only I see it that way.

Urarrr, you look at it completely rationally and correctly. Some are deaf and blind to all recommendations and advice on safe mountain hiking. Our mountain rescue regulations give them leeway too. Where rescue payment is from own pocket everyone thinks twice before challenging fate. Truth be told hikers' mentality is slowly shifting better here too. Regards!

Nicely, let them remove the safety gear and then surely no more crowds. Only a handful used to such terrain.

But I'm not sure ... there would be fewer people, but more chaos. Besides that pitons and fixed ropes would quickly appear on their own even if the path wasn't officially secured. So definitely I think it's better that the path is "officially" maintained and has at least some control over the whole mass of people pushing up ...

On highest peaks there will always be crowds, now it's happening even out of season. Whether secured paths or not. And if "we make crowds" even we who have been up many times, chaos is complete.
Regarding Czechs you have much to say about, weren't we years ago very similar to them (no gear,...)?!

Surprises me that those posting about crowds on Triglav are such from whom I wouldn't expect they would now "push" up.

Czechs settle in the hut, demand boiling water, add their tea bags, multiple times not once, in the same way cook soup from bags or whatever, saw it myself

Czechs are no different from Austrians, who aren't much different from us, who aren't much different from others.. Some of them spend lavishly, no matter how much something costs, and some pinch pennies everywhere and watch every cent. Most of us are somewhere in between, some more on one end and others more on the other.

Good thing we have Czechs so we can look down on someone and view them from above. Then the Slovene gets all offended when abroad they treat him as an easterner and lump him in the same basket as he does the Czechs, even though he thinks he's something more.
One of our more famous hiking writers wrote something similar in his book, feeling offended because they treat him like we treat Czechs here.
And I'm sure we're not better in anything. In many places they even overtake us, and on the right.

So much nonsense in such a small space as up there, it's pretty hard to find. Thanks for the top-notch entertainment!

It's not just Czechs, also Slovaks/Poles and English aren't much better.. from my experiences so far, I have the best experiences with French both in home and foreign mountains. Knowledgeable, equipped both technically and theoretically.. as far as I'm concerned their alpinists are really top-notch

Oh, I agree with @dprapr: in terms of equipment we're very similar to Czechs, and Czechs themselves aren't so unequipped anymore. Looks like as they overtake us in living standards in their country, they'll overtake us in equipment too...

I don't recall any special insults, mockeries, headfucks from them even now. If they themselves are unequipped, at least they don't side-eye those who are. About Slovenes, well...

In eastern Austria there are many of them and at least on via ferratas they're well equipped. Otherwise, among western nations 'Czechs' are those without mountains and mountain habits and culture. How many times have they rescued e.g. Dutch, remember Belgians under Mangart, if I'm not mistaken in 2008,...

I agree with @Branee about French. Not only in mountains, in general they're a very friendly nation, the exact opposite of that stereotype of the rough and nonchalant Frenchman. Those are e.g. Italians and Slovenes. With the difference that Italians at least know how to behave in mountains.

Hello,

I'm reading the forum, news and Triglav hike experiences with great pleasure. Praise for so many responses and stories.

But I have a question, hoping for an answer.
This coming weekend 6 and 7 August I plan to go to Triglav from Rudno polje via Planika. Going fifth time, but never on this route and to Planika, is reservation needed for sleeping? Expecting big crowds? And how about the weather, forecast bad on Saturday.
Also, is it better Saturday direct to Triglav and sleep over, next day and depending on weather?

Thanks for answers and best regards

Call Planika and ask how many are reserved and reserve for yourself just in case, if you're afraid you won't get a spot to sleep.
If you're going up on Saturday it's best to decide on the spot which day you'll go to Triglav, when you actually see what the weather is like.

Regards

The weekend will have bad weather, postpone your ascent, you won't regret it, or the mountain will still wait nasmeh

Since I was already in Vrat Valley on Saturday I decided to go Sunday via Tominšek to Triglav then descend via Prag. Sunday weather was quite nice, today wet. It drizzled all the way. No crowds. Glad I made it to two highest peaks these days

Hello!
With the group we plan next week (2 days) to Triglav. The weather forecast worries us a bit as it's not stable. What do you think, is it worth trying or better to wait?
