Since with my comment (reproach for whining) I caused a real mess under this nice winter ascent to Triglav, I'm chiming in again. Also ask Tadej to move all comments elsewhere, maybe under mountaineering gear. Everyone is right in their own way in this debate. Old folks defend old gear because we're still emotionally attached, know what can be done with it even if the harder way. We also know what gear to use where because most went through training and have years of experience. Younger often overdo gear, forget training. We too in young days didn't like listening to old timers' advice, especially inactive ones. Same now, nothing changed there. Used to debate on huts, now same day or hour online. Now like means more than done ascent and experience. Nobody wants advice or critique. Mountains still where they were, still offer wonderful experiences and full of dangers. Older see almost all, younger only those that "touched" them. As for moral, ethical side, not much changed. Like in past, some bail now too, mountains don't mean much, more what's after ascent. Never, really never, is that "one nice Slovenian trait" present that nteam mentions above. We're happy for every ascent you post.

Hill New Year's Eves are long past for me, I also avoid sleeping in huts from afar. Unfortunately, we don't have such a high hill here that you'd hike to it for two days. But Triglav is still a magnet for me, I prefer going in autumn: Luknja-Plemenice-summit -Kredarica-Prag. Yesterday was a gorgeous day, perfect for the first mountain tour of the year. I was a bit worried about the inversion forecast, as I feel more at home in icy snow than in slush. No traffic on the road (holiday), but it jammed 200m before parking in Krma, as the torrent gully was too deep for some cars. About 100m in reverse and loss of ten minutes. I easily caught up to Kredarica, as there's a highway led there. Still, many got 'stuck' in Kalvarija, overtaking wasn't hindered, as the snow was hard. In the hut I change wet clothes, eat half a sandwich, equip with gear and happily up the slope. Already below the foot of Mali Triglav I was glad to meet Dejan, who was returning from a particularly magnificent tour (via Plemenice). We greet, chat a bit, then each his own way. Dejan wasn't the only acquaintance yesterday, as few real mountaineers stayed home At the summit there was no crowd on my arrival, but a cute lady convinced me to take my picture Views for the gods, no cold, no wind either and I had nothing left but to snap already snapped nearby and distant hills a hundred times. Slowly down, snow on the strongly sun-exposed traverse of Mali Triglav was no longer the best, but the crowd of hikers formed a really good and firm track. To sum up: the most demanding part of the path yesterday for me was just under half an hour before the car, when it was slippery wherever you stepped, snow 2-3cm. To Dani for cappuccino (which she still can't brew) and home to enjoy the sunset.

Great that we met, Tone. Conditions, weather it's hard to have better than yesterday. For the last three, four years conditions in January for ascent are better than at the end of winter (March) Good luck

Lijaneja, how long does the ascent take in winter conditions (like now-hardened, trodden path) from Krma to Kredarica?... say moderate pace... Thanks...

Given that you're 18 years younger than me, so in the best years and winter conditions hiking isn't foreign to you, and you have average fitness, you can copy my yesterday's timetable. Parking in Krma - Kredarica 2.50h, good half hour break in the hut, and hut - Aljažev stolp 1.03h, with that Dejan (redbull) and I chatted quite a bit. Of course the last part always depends a lot on conditions (safety) and time can double. Super, Dejan. I admire your fitness and will. Really a pity that I have one New Year too many, otherwise we'd enjoy together sometime.

Yes, it was really besieged yesterday Primož, yeah it seems demanding and dangerous But everyone who goes up should be aware that in case of a fall there's no "second option", or that a soft landing after (a couple of) 100m is already a lottery hit. https://trobec.blogspot.com/2020/01/zimski-ocak-412020.html

Triglav - 4.1.2020 A bit after 5:00 I arrived in Krma. If I'd known you could drive to the end of the parking I'd have walked less, but no big deal. Still in the dark I advanced slowly and went around icy parts of the path. When I gained a bit altitude there was only snow on the path and I quickly reached Prgarca. There I stopped a bit, drank tea, stowed the headlamp, took pics, then back on the trail. A bit higher I caught the sunrise and of course admired it calmly without rushing - I had the whole day. I proceeded towards Kalvarija and tried to count the crowd ahead - unsuccessfully, but really not few. Given the sun I thought it'd be hot to Kredarica, but some wind came up, so it was just right. Some used crampons, some microspikes, I used the steps made on both sides of the path to Kredarica. From Vrh Snežne Konte it blew a bit more, so I quickly climbed up and hid in the alpine hut. I rested a bit, equipped and continued to the summit. Since I started later, I met fewer people. Conditions still super, nevertheless requires knowledge, experience and gear. Maybe some could start at least with a helmet? From Mali Triglav I observed a rope team in the S wall about 150m below the summit. First I saw two climbers, later realized four. Also could see someone rappelling on rope to the S side from Triglav ridge. Surely looking for something, what exactly I didn't find out. Maybe helmet for himself and partner? On the summit it was blowing quite well, so quickly ask other visitors for two pics and head back. Rest a bit at Kredarica, then quickly down to the valley.

Congratulations. The helmet will be harder to find there somewhere on the vertical south side. Under Gorjansko pot I have seen in the past some head protections

Lukito: I was also at the summit on Saturday, so I can explain the picture with the question mark to you. These two guys lost a phone worth 1000€. They tried to find it, unfortunately unsuccessfully. When I was returning from the summit they also lost an ice axe, which they found back. In their defense I can say they had all necessary/appropriate gear for descending! The only thing is, as you all know, if you're motionless for too long your fingers start freezing, no matter how quality gloves you have. They held up well... They were there more than two hours, I would have frozen. I wish them a nice greeting, if they ever come to this side

On January 1st, a Wednesday, I was also at the summit via Kredarica (on Saturday 4.1 via Planika). There was a huge number of people, most of them celebrated New Year's up there. It was nicer weather and 2 degrees less cold...

Marecar hi For such a thing you need quite some knowledge and gear. Probably they had to descend into the gully by rope and prusiks and return. If you do it the same day you maybe still have some chance that the wind didn't blow it away or carry it - if it didn't break on impact. I had mixed feelings watching them. On one hand for Jurja and in good conditions you do it because you're in the mountains anyway and have time. If they hadn't lost the phone they might have climbed a route in the south face for fun. You don't lose anything... except you freeze a bit more than "standing" on the ridge On the other hand with all the knowledge they have they could have put on helmets. Maybe they would be a bit of an example to those who were gawking on the ridge right at the spot where you can't pass anyway. Not that I'm judging them, I mentioned it more because it's something you don't see every day.

Once you're already there, like in the 13th picture there's no need to look down. There it's already too late to find anything.
