Mate07, what do you want to say? that people who want to stand at least once on the highest peak of Slovenia are not welcome in the mountains? so what if they take photos there, and I don't know what else. So no one thinks I approve of those hill walkers who went to Smarna Gora before, then straight to Triglav. no, but still there are many among them who have enough experience for Triglav and who will be there maybe once in a lifetime and then logically they want that moment in photos. so what if there's a crowd...it's logical that there'll be a crowd on the highest and most famous mountain here. and so what if they go down to Planika. and why do you then rush into that crowd? for some standing once on Triglav is enough, others on the other hand boast how many times they've been there and then think they can write such things about those who were up only once. not just some smart talk and looking down on others.

I also don't like this folklore that some stage and at the same time I don't approve of guiding inexperienced and unequipped groups that guides teach on the spot how to grip and test pegs etc. It seems that PDs and individuals often fulfill the wishes of people who basically aren't interested in mountains, but mainly folklore.

This thing that "every true Slovene must be on Triglav once" really gets on my nerves too, but what can we do ... But I see another possible danger in it: namely, inexperienced people who once managed to get to Triglav, but obviously never looked at any mountaineering literature (maybe just occasionally check a forum), can then think that if they've been to Triglav, they can go anywhere in the mountains ("isn't Triglav the hardest?"). I've personally heard such nonsense several times ...

@frnikola I just said how it was? @Kriška Why not, the path is really nice, the view from the top is hard to describe. The path is excellently secured, well marked, and the protections are in very good condition.

Mate07, no, because then all those who do other sports and don't go to the mountains, or those who don't do any sport, aren't actually Slovenes, or what?

Why is prosciutto so recommended for hiking and cycling? Salty food should in my opinion increase the risk of dehydration even more. On the other hand it's true that with prosciutto you replace the salt you lost sweating... Is that it, or is there some heavier science behind it?

salt closes pores and reduces sweating

Apčih - salty food causes the body to bind more water.

Hey, because of salty or unsalted food you won't get home safely! If you think it's so important, open a new topic (if there isn't one)- "food and drink in the mountains".. Yes. An old rescuer who walked among others also in the Himalayas told me that without "sausage" on serious tours it just doesn't go. Well, yeah, maybe you Ljubljana guys will change sausage to mountaineering bars.. Cool guys! "God bless you!" (I'm not some Styrian) Anyway, what do you think of- "to Triglav" ?

I've never been and never will be a fan of some lab products like gels, isotonic drinks, redbulls, and I don't know what combinations of pills and more. Chocolate for energy, banana too, and some good piece of homemade kiblflajš, tomato, cucumber, pepper, wholegrain bread... For thirst mostly water with a bit of salt added, sometimes a few drops of lemon juice, but not always... And of course good homemade blueberry liquor with handpicked blueberries and home-distilled fruit spirit from apples from own orchard for that final touch... I just want to hike in the mountains even after Abraham, not in hospitals because of problems with liver, kidneys and whatever due to hi-tech lab sports food and drink.

Who needs energy drinks for Triglav... water is enough for me, even some beer and a shot come in handy, energy drinks... are for more plastic hikers, when we talk about Triglav of course.

The more I read this thread, the more I feel that some on this forum want to own the mountains, as if they belong only to them and as if only their motive for visiting the mountains is correct and binding for all others. People go to the mountains for different reasons; some like the mountain landscape, some beat various records, some collect xxx 2000ers, some escape daily stress this way, some just get rid of the wife over the weekend (or vice versa)....... There are many such reasons, the fact is we all meet in the mountains and if we all stick to basic mountain principles and rules, there's no reason we couldn't all have a good time. Just a bit of tolerance is needed, otherwise we'll start pushing into precipices...."Ah this one is going to Triglav because he wants to be a real Slovene... That's pointless, let's kick him over the rock". When I meet a hiker I never ask what purpose he's going up for. I don't care - greeting, maybe a word and on my way. Just try sometimes giving someone advice without two or three then biting each other over "sausage" or "salt" like mad dogs. Regards

Mate07: geolog79 I didn't know that the path to Triglav and the view from the top is so cool. Have you heard of Jalovec, Prisank, Martuljek mountains?
