Zvončnica, I think far from Igor being the only one who enjoys the solitude of mountain tops and believe me, there are many of us who see and feel like him. And since we are proud like Aljaž of our homeland and love the mountains, every such thing touches us deeply. Best regards:

Aljaž survived Aljaž's times, and the first and second world wars, saw independent Slovenia . . . survived in deep snow, in fierce storms - hail, and wind battered it like the devil, . . . . . ., they took poor care of it, until Friends of Triglav, including Igor, took matters "into their own hands", professionally "restored" it, that is cleaned it, repainted it and also ensured that the tower stays at home when Rekar wanted to move it to a museum. Here's what I'll say: Aljaž, the tower, was conceived in the valley, born on top of dad. And if it managed to survive childhood and teenage years alone without foreign help, let it also enjoy adulthood and old age in peace and "at home". And as for our behavior, us = the most developed animals on the planet = I agree with the one who wrote long ago: if a person is good in the valley, they'll be even better in the mountains. But if bad, even worse up there. If what you do, you do with heart and mind . . .

"Tower guardians" will be responsible for its final disappearance. It was the same with all exhibits in the world, what wasn't stored in museums is lost forever for descendants. When the tower is someday destroyed, the guardians will be silent and remember nothing anymore like our politicians before parliamentary commissions. Finally we have a space that has already proven it serves its purpose but we won't use it properly just because of opposition from a few loud opponents whom under normal conditions no one would allow to agitate people. The main instigator should be issued a ban on approaching this object which wouldn't be the first in his life - and they already have.

lingo.. come on you're not serious did Aljaž build the tower so they could put it in a museum or so it would serve us mountaineers... make a copy and store it in the museum!!!

Blessed are the poor in spirit - theirs is the heavenly kingdom of ignorance! What will you say, Kozorog, in 30 years when it's gone, that Aljaž built it so it would reach into your lifetime and you can tell grandchildren how you remember saving it so they can't see it anymore? Do you even realize you're defending it for those who made a poor wreck out of its round roof??? From the tower only what Žakelj made out of morbegne will remain - a ruin no one will even know the name of.

lp I think the debate is going off track again. Damages have occurred; it would be better to talk about repairing the damage regardless of who caused it. I myself was photographed by the star on top half a century ago but I don't think I did special damage. What I hate in these texts are personal attacks. Everyone knows who's in charge!!

I think whoever hung on the tower probably didn't mean anything bad, of course it wasn't right. The euphoria of summiting the daddy did its thing.

lingo... if the tower has stood for over 100 years it can stand for my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many generations after me... of course on condition that we don't treat it stepmotherly but maintain and renovate it, which so far hasn't been the hallmark of those entrusted with it! Probably easier to put it in a museum than to maintain it... If what you wrote really happens, that no one will know even its name then we're not worthy of the history we have... and we'll all fail completely! The saying really applies to some - Blessed are the poor in spirit great is their kingdom! Some would really like to stuff it in some corner of a museum where dust would collect... at the same time maybe bringing bigger profit to museum schemers - really today everything is seen through money! The tower belongs in the place where Aljaž placed it and let it serve its purpose!!! No hard feelings!

I'm bothered by the insinuations that "lingo" wrote they unjustly and insultingly take away credibility from individuals and that's very rude! This part of the forum really isn't suitable for this discussion but it's necessary to exchange opinions. I believe the pain of those who didn't or haven't managed to get the tower into the museum is great.. but it should never be so great that you're offensive and uncouth!!!

It's clear that the tower can be protected from such things also in the place it belongs. If the advocates of removal really cared about its protection they would have done something in that direction already in the past. They could have fenced it properly, maintained it, put up multilingual signs with warnings and explained it's a monument of national importance, provided a protection law and measures against violators - desecrators etc.. There are many monuments nicely protected standing for decades and centuries in their place without problems. As is known they started talking about protecting A. tower only before the opening of the new museum in Mojstrana because of which it's clear to everyone that it was for a completely different - commercial purpose. Some just like to twist even the holiest intention (or even words of holy scripture) to prove their right. That's not okay.

You've strayed a bit. Last year I went from Bohinj direction through Komarča to the seven lakes and further towards Kanjavec. I thought to go to Triglav, but it was still quite far from that saddle. I'm interested if it's possible to do it in one day from Bohinj direction over Komarča to Triglav and back towards Bohinj. EDIT: Found: http://www.hribi.net/izlet/koca_pri_savici_triglav_cez_triglavska_jezera/1/1/248 Almost 9 hours walking, so I'd need 6 hours one way fast walking, 12 hours at 5am I'd have to be at the start. Has anyone done this route in one day?

Mountain lover, yes it's possible (depending on how fast you are and how much stamina you have...) I did this route about 10 years ago... in one day, but I started still in the dark... and returned just before dark... early bird catches the worm... but if you want to enjoy a bit and not just "rush", then better take two days; it's a wonderful tour with wonderful views worth a slower pace...

We still don't even dream what all can be done, hikes that seemed impossible to me at the start of my mountaineering "career" today mean normal tours for me. But I think limits of abilities should be pushed gradually not overhastily. Wisely. And of course need to enjoy, not kill yourself with vertical!

How are conditions from Krma now? You know I'd like to run to Kredarica. And I'm curious about the snow? Does it break through or is it already processed enough and compacted so it doesn't anymore? Thanks for answers Best, Bojan

Igor, I really got immersed in the description of the perfect Trentarska tour, which is quite different and interesting compared to classic ascents from Krma at this time of year. Congrats and thanks for the great photos and descriptions

On a holiday day it's fitting to go to this real mountain. Since I checked conditions last Friday, this time I took skis without hesitation. Ascent via Komar with all winter gear and skis on backpack of course not exactly a stroll, but where there's will, there's way. Some couloirs still have snow and gotta watch not to collapse something, as happened to me and I tumbled, but nothing worse. This time went far right, right by Z wall of Kanjavec under "Ship", couloir quite steep but nicely snow-covered, midway has crack that can still cross. Higher reach snow basin under Dolič, exceptionally snowed this year (tho they whined about poor winter). Go past Dolič and winter passage west of Šmarjetna glava. Here already 5-10 cm new snow, mostly foggy and windy from NE. Go to Morbegne on ZTP. Dense fog kinda messed with me crossing under Triglav summit, good it cleared a bit otherwise probably turned back. Leave skis at first pitons, then secured traverse snowed this time to Bovška notch. There wind from east again but still ok. To summit snow drifts up to half meter in places, summit part old snow anyway. Step to Aljaž dressed in holiday decor today, sit bit, then back down to skis. First part not brilliant skiing, slight crust with windpacked new snow, real descent started from Dolič down to Komar. Skied couloir under "Ship" too, just at limit of my abilities. Lower great run till snow lasted, then skis on backpack again and careful to valley, Komar steeper downhill for me every year. Wasn't bad, opposite great. In Zadnica visit Vinkot where Justi treats me again, chat with Turbot on current topics as he's there.

Igor, I assume you were the only one who marked the holiday on Triglav, our proud father! Thanks for that deed! I wish you mark many more! Safe!
