Today on Veliki vrh and Toplar. Start under Matizovcem and over Kofce to Kofce gora and along the edge to Toplar and Veliki vrh. Back the same way. In the morning snow was a bit frozen and didn't sink much. Already around 10 the snow softened properly. On the way up I put on crampons midway between Kofce gora and V. vrh, but took them off on descent. No crowds, met only one more hiker, afternoon probably no one else went up. Summer temperatures, thirst too. Pears at the Kofce hut were great as they haven't been for a long time....

From Matizovec to Kofce, 1 to 2 cm of snow, from the hut onwards three quarters of the path windblown to the ground, some small drifts. On the top windy and cold, a little above the hut on the return snow already melting.

Has anyone these days gone from Kofce to Kofce gora and on to V. vrh? What are the conditions on this path?

Today to Veliki vrh from Matizovca. Ascent and descent on the summer marked path. Up to below Toplar one can mostly avoid snow, from there onwards to the summit there is snow. Until today the summit had few visitors, as there was only one set of tracks in the snow which ended a little below the summit, so the summit itself was untouched since the last snowfall. Today there were quite a few of us up there. The snow was sinking considerably and once or twice I ended up waist-deep in a hole . Otherwise warm and almost no wind.

After a long time finally back in the mountains. This time to Veliki vrh from Matizovca. From the junction to Kofce gora lots of snow, no track, sometimes over the knees. Avalanche conditions OK, as on the slope between Kofce gora and Toplar almost all the new snow has already slid down. Surprisingly the avalanche debris is also soft, so progress there was even harder. Winter gear was welcome on the traverse from Toplar onwards and a bit below the summit where it was quite hard, otherwise soft snow or crust that sinks quickly. On the return everything was soaked. Weather as per forecast, mostly sunny, just occasionally a cloud came by.

This time the 6th goal was Great Peak (Košuta). Due to yesterday's view of Košuta, which was quite white, and the inexperience of some participants, I was a bit worried if we would make it to the summit. The starting point was the parking lot under Matizovec, from there we headed to Dom na Kofcah. The path was without issues here, but quite a bit of broken trees was noticeable, just before planina Kofce even a tree across the path, which they had removed by our return. At Dom na Kofcah we refreshed with coffee and enjoyed nice views, then headed to the summit. Due to snow we chose the ridge path. After a good ten minutes on the ridge path (and overtaking a group of mountain rescuers who had training) snow started on the path. Here we put on crampons and swapped poles for ice axes (almost all). After a few switchbacks the trodden path ended, so we had to break trail to the top of Kofce gora, extending the trip by a good half hour. We crossed some small avalanche areas too, where the snow was very poor and unstable, so we went over those one by one (safety first!). From Kofce gora to Great Peak there were no special features, but breaking trail was still needed over snowfields. For descent we chose the summer path, as during ascent we could observe the conditions and it looked okay, which proved true in the end and we had no issues. On descent the snow was very rotten, wet underneath with puddles. Some of today's impressions and conditions in the pictures below and short video. >> Video <<

On Saturday from parking under Matizovec to Kofce and on to Kofce gora, then to Little and Great Kladivo. Then back over Kofce gora to Toplar and Great Peak. Descended the summer path back to Kofce for beer. Path completely dry and in flowers. Only under Little Kladivo a 10m snowfield needing some care (which will soon melt).

Hello. I'm wondering if one can drive by car to the village Jelendol and then to planina Kofce-Mrzli studenec? Thanks for the answer
