I was up there today from Matizovca. Snow starts at cca. 1800 meters. It is nicely drifted on the path about 10 to 20 cm, soft and non-problematic for walking. Greater caution is needed off the path, as grasses are icy in places and very slippery. Views today worse due to clouds and cold wind blowing. From Vv crossed to Toplar then to Kofce peak, from Kofce peak down western gully straight to hiking path for Kofce. At Kofce obligatory marenda - excellent cheese strudel Then descent back to Matizovca.

I was on Veliki vrh on Thursday, 14 April. Snow started then already around 1550, to the top without crampons and ice axe I wouldn't dare. But conditions obviously change very fast. Everyone must assess them for themselves, gear must be taken along or know to turn back in time.

We two were up on Sunday (17.4.). Just before the ridge new snow started but not much. There were quite a few of us, all without crampons. You just need secure footing. Good luck.

Today went up. Start at Matizovec farm. Caught sunrise at Kofce. Fog approaching and hurried to top to catch some views. Halfway from Kofce suddenly all in thick fog. At top cleared for 15 min, so effort not wasted. Then covered again. Don't know later. Met some hikers going to top.

Today, despite the poor forecast, we visited Veliki vrh. We started from Matizovec, where we also contributed a bit for parking. Despite the sunny morning, the peak greeted us in fog and cold wind. But we warmed up again on Kofce in the sun, so we still had a wonderful day .

Nice morning walk and nice pics, which would be even nicer if visibility was better. That's how it is in the mountains, conditions can't always be ideal, even if you start really early. Hope the jackdaw got breakfast too Lp

At the summit I was just before 11 and visibility really wasn't ideal. In the afternoon the sky over Karavanke was threateningly black, but it cleared up soon again. Very hot day, and the jackdaw got its share too.

Hi!
Can someone tell me some info? I'd like to hike part of Košuta namely this route: pl.Šija - Kladivo - Kofce gora - Veliki vrh - Kofce - pl.Šija. Wondering how long this route takes. Has anyone hiked this route?  Are there sections where you need to watch not to get lost? Read that on that pasture below you have to be careful...?

christina I hiked the route in reverse direction not long ago... time-wise sorry hard to say exactly how long, but around 3 hours I think... No orientation issues, maybe a tad easier if you do it reverse too - and some pics for help
