The junction is not marked, because it's an unmarked trail. That's the charm of this trail, that you have to be at least a bit of a trail follower.

I think you're off-topic. It was marked, check Palec mountains list, picture 26.

If the junction is marked with a cairn, it's still an unmarked trail, that's what I'm talking about. Since you're hinting that PD marked the junction, I'm saying it wasn't marked and won't be. Otherwise there used to be a big P on the tree.

It's right that it's not marked! Anyway, P on the tree doesn't mean parking lot! robter: that charm in Suho ruševje is long gone...

Suho ruševje won't deserve that name anymore, apparently they decided to make a two-lane road through it. A considerable part of it is cut down. This is just part of the "vandalism". http://shrani.si/f/i/PJ/BxdbZX0/dsc0720.jpg

On Saturday also my first time on Vrtača. From Ljubelj to Zelenica and then to the top. At noon up top it was quite nice - sun, light breeze and good views. Lots of crows, quite at home like at the dump. Even books to sign (two small ones). Quite some people on top - locals and neighbors from the other side. Extended the tour to Austrian side and jumped to Belščica, legs carried well so tackled Stol too, quite foggy there. Some snow on path in places, nothing serious, enough to cool off . Met two Koroška guys with MTB on top again. Descent back upper path to Zelenica and Ljubelj. Nice tour, conquered all three highest Karavanke peaks.

I also visited Vrtača on Saturday, extended the path to Stol and returned via lower path past Završnica back to Ljubelj. Really pleasant tour. And with tinky we said a couple of words to them, scared off the otherwise very peaceful morning path

So she'll believe you were really up there. You're sitting to the right of the ice axe.

Today we tackled the NE ridge of Vrtača. Obviously the proverb early hour golden hour doesn't always apply. The route was completely shrouded in fog, rock wet, verglas-covered and snowy in places. Despite all obstacles and sore fingers we successfully climbed the route, awaited improvement and ascended the normal route to Mali Grad too. Scottish conditions and great company. cheers

Today the forecast above 1500m was nice sunny with great views of surrounding peaks. In the morning I drove to Ljubelj border crossing. I started the trail up through the ski slope to Dom na Zelenici and continued to Vrtača. And indeed the forecasters nailed it. Otherwise plenty of hikers went to the summit for nice views and photos of beautiful snow-covered peaks in white robes. I'll upload more pics to vukovivek.blogspot.com.

Has anyone been to Vrtača in Y gully maybe? What are the conditions like?

I'm interested too, as I plan to go up tomorrow with a colleague. The only tricky bit might be Suho ruševje if the rotten snow is too deep.
