Left gully = Central gully, Y is the same as Central gully, which has a right branch.
Both have 40° slope except at Begunjščica Y has 50°, if I'm right, otherwise someone correct me.

Uh, don't know the numbers, but I'd say Left branch of Y and Central are +/- the same, Left gully has slightly steeper exit.

On Saturday we climbed Y in Vrtača, Left in Vrtača and central in Begunjščica. Easiest is Central in Begunjščica, a bit harder Y in Vrtača, hardest Left in Vrtača. Of course in current conditions...

To me Central in Begunjščica seems gentler than left branch of Y in Vrtača. I don't know numbers either, was in both this winter and got that feeling. Mainly the steep part in Y is longer than in central. But in central last December there was much less snow than now.

I was in Y, judging by tslo1's picture. In dry it looks much more demanding than now.

On some moderate slope with nice runout, practice ice axe arrest if heading to gully. For a feel of how fast it goes if you slip (accidentally filmed on Sunday)

Yes, that's how it goes. In the first couple of seconds there's only time to stop, in ten seconds of sliding already near 80km/h eek

She yelled that everything is fine. But I imagine at least some bruises.

I posted this in this thread because there was debate about Y in Vrtača. This is recorded at entrance to this gully. Higher it was quite harder, narrower and also somewhat steeper. There such a slip would be much more serious.

If it wasn't so wet, this would be more tragic. At first chance I'll train stopping again, as I think you get some confidence that has no real basis. If really fallen I don't know how it would end...

Today Vrtača in snowy conditions tempted me. A bit after four I started from Ljubelj. The moon didn't help much as it hid behind Begunjščica. Some skiers gathered at Suhem ruševju. I went to check Palec too, then it softened already. Weather wonderful /kitsch, as dprapr says /. At the hut on Zelenica some sunbathing with coffee, then to the valley. It was nice.

Vrtača on Sunday. Day beautiful, sun, hot. Up central (left) gully, down Y. Snow good in lower part, higher up completely slushy. Lots of skiers, no alpinists. And some pics ...
