Despite bad forecast and 100 checked forecasts we still hoped for nice weather, yesterday, no mistake. From Ljubelj to half hour below Vrtača summit weather was OK, but then we had to accept how it was, at least we weren't wet. 1 hour earlier should have gotten up but 5.00 is early, no at least for me, then drive from Slovenske gorice, and at start already half nine, but despite all we were satisfied, although due to clouds missed the views from top.

Hi! Has anyone been to Vrtača in recent days from Tinčkova koča direction via Smuško planina or from Ljubelj and has any info on conditions? Thanks in advance.

Was today from Ljubelj, snow only a trace, winter gear not needed.

If anyone's interested in the path from Ljubelj to Vrtača....snow starts a bit further from Vrtača hut, to Zelenica hut the path is without features, on Zelenica snow cca 15 cm....further to Vrtača more and more, I got to approx 1800 m where snow already at least 40 cm. Could go further, but figured I'd arrive just after sunset on top....."damn gotta go to work in the morning too"

tinky you're right, just quickly looked at the map and didn't notice Srednji vrh at all ....yeah mukica especially in this fog we have today

22.12.2014 members of AO NM on Vrtača.
Colleagues from HRV "jedriličar" we met at Zelenica provided photos in Y gully.
I want to warn, Y jump quite steep and without proper alpine gear and knowledge deadly dangerous ,.... esp don't recommend descent Y-silon till new snow.
South gully all snow, not much but fully filled, hard compact snow, steps all gully.
Marked path from saddle in snow, trodden and with good boots little care enjoyable no crampons ice axe, though winter gear always along in winter.

Today quite a few of us up. Jump in Y gully still there. Gully very poorly filled and not yet suitable for skiing safe descents. My partner and three more foot descent south gully, I skied it down. Snow heavy south, so skiing little as sticks to skis.
Over Suho ruševje bare many places or very little snow.
Sadly due bad conditions only my second ''alpine descent'' project #40spustov.
