Simon.. this is the only picture in the gully I took.. in the gully itself snow is quite soft, lower under the gully windblown and icy!

In the afternoon dashed to Vrtača via Y gully. Conditions were super, here and there it breaks through nasmeh

Gully nicely filled, except one spot where you need to bypass rock.... few more pics nasmeh

I had to make a hole to see to the other side :)

Today up and down the left branch. The scree from below was icy, but most went from below Zelenjak across to the gully entrance. Compared to the gullies in Begunjščica, here the snow gets mushy.
Since the weather was nice, I also climbed Zelenjak and Palec.

Today early up Y to Begunjščica, descent central gully. Then continue to Vrtača up Y and down, at the end go also to Zelenjak and Palec along ridge. Conditions quite OK.

Yesterday saw some hikers, esp. ski tourers, up central gully Begunjščica just with poles no crampons ice axe. Lower met many more going up. In Y Vrtača saw also at least 5 ski tourers just crampons no ice axe had poles, some just poles up gully to top. Anyway such will sort themselves what's good bad, like lower crossing very hard terrain Zelenjak to Y entrance, I went too but had winter boots crampons two ice axes helmet. Anyway be very alert around such, better withdraw wait they do theirs than innocent unnecessarily screwed if one slips. Conditions yesterday good, today tomorrow on different.

Saturday conditions excellent.....all annoying was wind. Conditions in gully super....ice axe and crampons biting as should velik nasmeh

Start of path to Mala glava and ridge needs to be found and navigate through dense scree looking for best passages. Path is anyway a bit higher below saddle to Suho Ruševje already well/wide cleared, but if you're at saddle, then go left, on ascent to ridge then on pathless terrain stay right of scree growth and in harder passages go up withdrawing right.
From Mala glava on difficulty eases, ridge also becomes wider and partly grassy, rock quite crumbly. Orientation-wise second part of path easier, also more traceable. Well at key spots there are also some freshly placed cairns this year.
On entire path along ridge and summit no snow. But snow still in central gully on descent to Suho Ruševje, however in between exactly two hardest spots are dry (chimney where there's peg). Snow in these conditions soft, so descent more demanding, and in these conditions need to consider also technical capabilities of ice axe and crampons.]]>

At the branch to Suho Ruševje the scree has become very overgrown and is quite difficult to pass

At unmarked paths it is always difficult to find the correct start

Ascent to Mala glava - the most climbing section of the path (which can also be bypassed with a short detour)

Ascent along the panoramic ridge, where the gradient eases in places

Last section of the ascent to the summit

The hardest part on descent (chimney where the bolt is) is steep / ouch, turn upright

Snow in the gully helped with proper use, still useful for descent

on Vrtača still quite some snow which isn't problematic - went without winter gear
Zelenjak dry from scree onwards
Palec has in between filled gully where I used ice axe out of caution.

From hut at source Završnica continue on steep unmarked path to summit of Vrtača, descent we do "around" on marked path. Stop at Zelenica, then descent to Ljubelj. Also to Vrtača path without peculiarities. Regards.]]>
