The eastern gully also named Y is technically harder. If there's not enough snow then rope belay is recommended at the jump. Lp

Today late afternoon to Vrtača from Ljubelj. Little snow to Zelenica but quite icy in places. Around the hut a bit more winter-like nasmeh but soon as path continues into forest conditions spring-like, here and there still some icy trail section. A bit more snow above 2000m. Today crampons stayed in backpack....

The new colleague and I were also in this area, but a bit more around and then down from the top.

After yesterday's fog in the Y gully, this was real satisfaction today... at least as far as the sky weather is concerned. From a temperature perspective, of course not.

Yesterday's footprints were mostly blown away or I drove over them yesterday so they were useless today.

Despite starting at 5 a.m., we had south-facing snow on the descent. We skied the South Gully.

Yesterday to Vrtača via Y, nicely passable, at moments sinks a bit so gaiters recommended.

This time winter Vrtača via *Left*. Winter delivered the right amount of snow for this gully, spring sun arranged everything needed for deep, stable steps nasmeh. In the morning it was a winning combination. The ice axe in steep sections delights especially with its pick. Exit to the forepeak and traverse to Vrtača is BP. Few of us on top, compared to Begunjščica we were real exotics velik nasmeh. Return via south variant dubious, so only logical descent via *Y*. Jump filled in, but snow here and in the left traverse more wet. Helmet on, skiers shoot ice projectiles. All together pure ten, at hut snow beach packed to the last corner velik nasmeh.

Today Dejan and I headed to Vrtača in real winter conditions - central gully, up the right one, down the left, jumps filled in. We had clear, foggy, cloudy weather, then snow.
On the way back we also went to Zelenjak. On return to Zelenica we met some forum folks, ...

If yesterday fog prevailed, today there was plenty of sun nasmeh Ascent and descent via Y couloir, snow excellent in the morning, towards afternoon a bit heavier.

If anyone finds a Black Diamond semi-automatic crampon in the upper part of the Left Gully, please let me know. zadrega
And a couple of pics from today. Weather was still nice in the morning, conditions not quite ideal: thaw, sinking quite a bit, everything flying down, in Begunjska vrtača I saw a fairly large avalanche too.

Has anyone been to Vrtača via Y in the last few days? What are the snow conditions like and is the jump at the end already rocky or still under snow?

Todi, one question. In photo no. 13, from 26.3., it shows you wearing a self-belay kit - on a winter ascent zmeden Maybe I'm uninformed, but I don't understand why you'd have it?
