The eastern gully also named Y is technically harder. If there's not enough snow then rope belay is recommended at the jump. Lp

To the remote end of Vrtača and to Srednji vrh via powder snow.

Yesterday to Vrtača via Y, nicely passable, at moments sinks a bit so gaiters recommended.

If yesterday fog prevailed, today there was plenty of sun Ascent and descent via Y couloir, snow excellent in the morning, towards afternoon a bit heavier.

If anyone finds a Black Diamond semi-automatic crampon in the upper part of the Left Gully, please let me know. And a couple of pics from today. Weather was still nice in the morning, conditions not quite ideal: thaw, sinking quite a bit, everything flying down, in Begunjska vrtača I saw a fairly large avalanche too.

Has anyone been to Vrtača via Y in the last few days? What are the snow conditions like and is the jump at the end already rocky or still under snow?

Todi, one question. In photo no. 13, from 26.3., it shows you wearing a self-belay kit - on a winter ascent Maybe I'm uninformed, but I don't understand why you'd have it?

panda10, off the cuff I'd say he improvised a bit. Instead of prusiks he attached the ice axes with the SVK

Or check my post under no. 12. I assume that's why his ice axe won't run away downhill

panda10, you'll need to go to the mountains some more, then you'll learn something
