Today I was on Begunjščica. From Ljubelj via Calvary to the summit, then to Roblek hut. From there towards Tinčkova hut and at junction to Dom na Zelenici. Direct ascent from Begunjščica to that hut several people discouraged me due to snow. Then from Zelenica back to Ljubelj. Long route, but worth it! Survived two calvaries as for knees.

zvone1, how's the snow? If the weather holds, I'm planning to go up next weekend. I'd do a similar tour, so I'm curious how long this takes. To know what to expect.

If you haven't gone from Draga via Luknja and Calvary to Begunjščica yet, I recommend this route. There is no direct description on hribi.net, but it's no great art to find the path. In Begunje past Kamen castle to dom v Dragi. You can park another 200 m higher on the road where there are parking spots. Signs from the road quickly direct you right to Luknja towards Prevala. Then picturesque end with a stream, one or two waterfalls, even some pegs and cables, decent ascent to Prevala meadow. Then a bit of calvary in terms of steepness (well, if you're hikers, it won't be too bad) to the top. Quite a decent tour with over 1400 m elevation gain. Today it twice looked like the sky was falling, but nothing happened, not even a drizzle. A bit of wind caused one of the summit sitters annoyance as his backpack flew down into the gully (apparently central)eek, I hope his search ended successfully. Back to Roblek via Poljska planina to the starting point. In Šentanski plaz snow is already gone from half the gully (upper part), the upper parts of the second gully look equally poor. Otherwise the described path is entirely dry.

Yesterday I tried Begunjščica via the central gully, but it didn't go. Snow is only in the upper-narrower part. After dry-scree and rocks I scratched to 1700 m, to snow (and solution) short another 150 elevation meters. Down went betternasmeh

LG, that's less than a quarter of the path described by LidijaJesih. Her description is very good, for those who haven't been here yet. I recommend! cool
Yesterday I went on this path. It was nice, despite windy and quite foggy weather. The path is well marked, hard to miss.

Yesterday on Begunjščica, started in Tržič via Dobrča and Prevala meadow over Kalvarija to Veliki vrh and then to Roblek, then to Zelenica and finish at Ljubelj. On the path from Roblek to Zelenica there is still some snow which doesn't cause major problems. Nice one-day tour we did as part of Transferzale.

Stankoju, this was a real chunk for this time. I quickly put together stages, you must have taken 7 to 9 hours like that, elevation gain even more than to Triglav. And two cars probably, otherwise another hour to the bottom. You stretched your legs well.nasmeh

Last Thursday we "turned up our nose" at cloudy Gorenjska and instead of Begunjščica as planned, climbed Nanos and Suhi vrh. Well, today we went for "indulgence" mežikanje and did a loop: Draga – Prevala meadow – over Kalvarija to the top – Roblekov dom – Poljska planina and Planinca meadow – Draga. No special features on the path, quite some flowers, views average today. The path over Kalvarija is nicely laid out and we didn't notice such steep incline as expected. We met quite some "life" - three hikers, a flock of sheep and unusually many glider pilots and paragliders (moderate wind was just right for them today nasmeh). Nice loop again... nasmeh

I always explain that it's smart to plan ascent on harder/steeper path and descent on easier gentler one. Contrary to that today I went to Begunjščica from Ljubelj via Zelenica and descended the steep path over Kalvarija to Prevala and then via Bornova path back to Ljubelj. Day was ideal for hill walking, not too hot with light breeze, nice views and peace. To Zelenica quite some hikers - new hut closed in the morning - further on path met only six more. Path is ideal, doesn't slip even over Kalvarija because dry.

Early in the morning the weather didn't promise much. Still, I go, at least it won't be hot, I think. I drive to Draga. Through Luknja to Prevala. Some people are already in front of the hut. I continue over Kalvarija towards Begunjščica. Over the edge a cold wind was blowing, no sun. Quite a few people had gathered at the top. After a few minutes on the top, the clouds started breaking and the sun came out. Suddenly it got pleasantly warm. Peaks that had previously been hidden in clouds shook off the cloudiness and showed themselves in all their beauty. I sit a bit below the edge in the shelter and enjoy the views and chat with two nice hikers.
I return past Roblek. A bit below the hut I turn left onto a nice scenic path that brings me back to Prevala. From there just descent through Luknja to Draga.

Today from Ljubelj to Roblekov dom and on to Begunjščica summit. To Roblek we didn't meet anyone, probably due to the quite early hour. Return to Zelenica and back to Ljubelj. We planned descent via Šentanski plaz, but we ended up in front of the hut at Završnica springzmeden Nothing clear. Well, luckily to the hut at Zelenica "only" 20 minutes, which stretch in this heat. Today from Tomčeva koča at Poljska planina to Roblekov dom and on to Begunjščica (Veliki vrh). From the summit over Kalvarija to Planina Prevala and from there via Roža back to the starting point. Nice weather, views of the entire Karavanke wonderful. Quite a few hikers. Sour milk at Prevala nicely refreshes. For the finish, still a visit to Kamen castle.

This year first hike, from Draga to the top. Nice path to Prevala, which was the intended goal. The view from the mountain pasture to the top of Begunjščica added its own. With wife and daughter we took it straight over Kalvarija to the top, then to Roblek and back over Roža.
