On Saturday my goal was Veliki vrh on Begunjščica. Start from Ljubelj along Bornova path to Prevala pasture and over Kalvarija to the ridge of Begunjščica and then to Veliki vrh. Descent towards Roblekov dom and return to the junction towards Zelenica, visit to the mountain hut at Zelenica and return to starting point at Ljubelj.

3.8.2012 my husband and I did a circular route: Ljubelj - Dom na Zelenici - Veliki vrh - Roblekov dom - Dom na Prevali - Ljubelj (Bornova path). The trip is gorgeous, delights with views of Vrtača, Stol, Gorenjska with Lake Bled. The path is varied and diverse. On screes alpine poppy blooms, from rock crevices peek Zois's violets and triglav roses. From Prevala towards Ljubelj the Bornova path is poorly marked - a few minutes after the start the path forks, follow the left, upper branch. We will definitely repeat the trip in full composition.

Which path do you recommend for a family with children aged 8-11 years, already several times in the mountains this summer, to Roblekov dom on Begunjščica or to the top of Begunjščica itself?

Aina, if the children are fit and can walk about 7 hours throughout the day, then I warmly recommend the following wonderful circular path: Ljubelj pass - through Bornov tunnel to pl. Preval-a (good hour walk; pl. Preval-a - Roblekov dom (hour and a half walk); Roblekov dom - top of Begunjščica (good hour walk); from the top back to the junction - Zelenica (about hour and a half walk); Zelenica - Ljubelj (less than hour walk). And safe steps to you and enjoy the views of the surrounding peaks.

rogi, what about the other way, to Zelenica in the morning by cable car, I think it runs on Saturdays and Sundays, (for me saving time and energy), then towards the top .....
I'm interested in your opinion, what would be better for me. I know the paths, but making plans for autumn.

Hello Rak

The cable car really comes in handy for longer tours and when the step is no longer young. Just don't know if it still runs in autumn time. I photographed this notice at the beginning of the path to Zelenica.
Good luck in the mountains.

"Aboc" where did you "pick up" the name "Bournova pot"??? The Born family has always been Born (and still is).

Has anyone been on Begunjščica in the last days? I'm thinking of going on Wednesday from Draga, up over Prevala and down past Roblekov dom, wondering if there's any snow or what the path is like. Is the path well marked?

Snow is just a sample and shouldn't pose problems. Path to Prevala is repaired. Maybe a bit poorly marked only from the spot where we rise above forest line (below Begunjska Vrtača) to Veliki vrh. But if you stick to the little path on southern ridge part you can't miss.

Hello!

I'm wondering if it's possible to leave the car also at Planina Planinca, or higher than Dom v Dragi. How long is it on foot from Dom v Dragi to Planinca?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is possible, but the question is what condition the road is in. From Dom v Dragi to Planinca about an hour's walk, the path is easy and marked and does not follow the road all the time.

Well, I finally... tackled this Begunjščica after a long timevelik nasmeh. Due to the abundance of other, more interesting and desired peaks, I put it aside for quite some timeeek, but for today it was reserved already upon returning from Triglav last Tuesday.

Start of course at Ljubelj. Parking lot quite empty, just here and there a car. Surprisingly... and that's goodnasmeh. Then straight towards Prevala... through the Born tunnels. Which are really interesting. Well, at least for me they were, since I rushed here for the first time. And of course, the first time leaves the biggest impressionmežikanje. A pleasant path slowly brings us to the hut at Prevala. The staff was hospitable and obliging, one of the locals extremely talkative and friendly. There was no lack of laughter and good moodnasmehmežikanje. After a cup of tea, we head further. Right to Roblek... Someone was following us all the timevelik nasmeh... at first it didn't seem like it at all. Anyway, the occasionally steep path crosses one patch of newly fallen snow - crossing causes no problems, little birds - haha, especially one, follow us, but not for long, then we slowly arrive at Roblekov domnasmeh. The visit is of course quite substantial. For some it was the goal, for most just a stopover. Here we take a portion of excellent tea and pehtranko, then bravely onwards. Towards the summit full of mud due to snow meltvelik nasmeh. Not much of it. It causes problems on the descent, and only due to the mud, since the rocks are quite slippery at every step. The summit, like the entire path, does not offer particularly exceptional viewsmrk pogled... unfortunately. We didn't spot the summit of Stol, only on the descent towards Zelenica did we have the chance to observe Vrtača bathed in sunlight. A whole bunch of us were on the summit for a long time, then the two of us remain alone... with choughs... which, unlike the others, are quite patientvelik nasmeh... and almost tame... Unbelievable, several of them ate from my handcool. We carefully descend to the junction, then towards Zelenica. The path is extremely pleasant, but due to slipperiness and mud, great caution was needed in some places - thank God for some spruce branches. From here the view of Vrtača was wonderful. Somewhere in the middle of the scree field through which the winter approach runs, there is some snow... it poses no problems. Koča pri izviru Završnice also had some visitors - at least it sounded that way. After a 2-hour descent, we arrive at Zelenicamežikanje. The hut is really nicely arranged... hats off. From the entries in the logbook, I see that there were quite a few visits to the surrounding peaksnasmeh. And that's good. Followed by a pleasant descent to the starting point.

Another wonderfully spent Sunday behind me. Begunjščica saw me again after 20eek years. Super dupernasmehmežikanje.

Yesterday we used the day to visit Begunjščica. We started at Ljubelj through the Born tunnels, which were full of water after the recent rain towards Prevala. The path was nice, maybe quite damp, muddy.... From the hut at Kalvarija, which doesn't have this name for nothing jezik towards Begunjščica, which is the entire range, its highest peak is called Veliki vrh, at least that's what they taught me zmeden. Nice views, only the wind gained strength with every meter... very windy at the top...eek After the obligatory photos we soon left the summit and descended towards Roblek, in the shelter we snacked the two of us and the choughs mežikanje, then went towards Zelenica.. Nice, well protected and dry path brought us to the starting point... Nice, wonderful day spent in the embrace of the mountains...nasmeh
