Ljubelj- Prevala (via Born's path)- Begunjščica- Roblek- Prevala (over Roža)- Ljubelj ...conditions 22.12.2012

Ljubelj (plateau before tunnel) was today right on the border between gray and blue. Path to Prevala has some frozen snow in initial part requiring caution but not disturbing, then less and less. From Prevala up through Kalvarija we made good track, in upper part before leaving forest snow sinks to waist, then in summit part quite windblown, along ridge sinks again and requires secure steps. At Begunjščica summit quite some visitors, mostly from Zelenica. We head to Roblek, deepening the windblown track from previous days, then over Rožca back to Prevala and Ljubelj. No crampons used today as snow was soft and didn't bear human weight. Little wind, temperature in sun above 0.
Start from Ljubelj past the closed hotel along Bornova pot, where in winter ... there are no snakes!1

Today ascent via central gully to Begunjščica. Already at parking at Ljubelj very icy, no snow. Higher at ski slope conditions better. Start of ascent on scree is icy and almost no snow. Higher enough snow, snow sinks, exit windblown and icy. Returned via Šentanski avalanche track. Here especially on right side viewed from descent direction lots of windblown snow. In lower part snow decreases again. regards miro

Tons of ski tourers and also some hikers today towards summit via Šentanski avalanche track. For skiers ascent no problem, for hikers mostly also, as it rarely slightly sinks under feet. On top like on beach, sun and shade far away all around. Ski descent required some caution in upper part due to a few stones, on avalanche track occasionally slightly sinking. Enjoyed Simon and Katja and the other 80... or 100 and some more

Today's early hour was a good choicevelik nasmeh, started still in the dark, snow was nicely frozen so it held well. Plenty of visitors even late morning when the sun is already scorching it fully, some don't heed the warningjezen, which is posted for the service road to Zelenica that it's not passable due to avalanches and we witnessed around half past ten a.m. a slab avalanche released and covered the service road, good no one was there then, but there were before and afterjezen.

I agree with the above description. Crowds of people walk the notorious road despite warnings. This endangers themselves and also everyone who would have to expose themselves in a possible rescue.

Climbed Y on Begunjščica Saturday afternoon, chose left exit because I assumed cornices on ridge of right exit that can't be crossed in these conditions. Snow too soft, lower part (ca. 150 m from split with centralka) still wet and heavy, upper part dry and loose, doesn't hold at all, sinking to a..e. Exit to ridge ok, no problem. Descent centralka. No tracks before us in Y (smart people, unlike us) and really don't recommend, not even in morning hours. Upper gully part not shaded at all, won't freeze.

Yesterday climbed Lenuhova gully to Begunjščica ridge and summit, descent centralka..
Lenuhova nicely filled windpacked, lower and middle pleasant, upper bit worse snow. On ridge tracks from Marijana and Marko mežikanje
That day only ones in gully velik nasmeh

no jump.. flooded.. for us on the last quarter of the gully to the exit on the Begunjščica cirque ridge there was a bit worse snow because it was not windpacked there, but not deep sinking... further to the summit more or less OK.. question how it will be later because the sun was strong on Sunday

@Juš: if you mean 'mine' in Y, that's because we went wrong, under that wall near the top we should have gone right and no traverse ... just straight up ...

Juš, that traverse is because there was a wrong exit from the gully zadrega (we "took" the right but it should have been left) zavijanje z očmi

Ascent over Šentanski couloir, descent down Smokuški couloir. Unfrozen snow so we reached the top completely without problems without crampons.
