Three-day ridge traverse of Bohinj peaks. Day 1: Podbrdo, Sedlo nad Kalom, Babji zob, Rušni vrh and Črna prst. Day 2: Konjski, Poljanski and Matajurski vrh, Vel. and Mali Raškovec, Suha Rodica, Rodica, Mala Rodica, then over Suha and under Šija to Vratca, Vogel and descent through Krnica to planina Razor - sleep. Day 3: from planina Razor along E7 above Grant and Rut to Stržišče, Kala, and over saddle to Podbrdo. Fantastic tour for peace and enjoyment in mountains, especially if weather is like it was these three days. Some photos at

Today to Črna prst from Baško sedlo. Weather and views wonderful, just a bit windy. Few visitors but very satisfied nasmeh

Due to temps above freezing, conditions change daily. On Podbrdo side, Črna prst wrapped in thick fog. Better wait for better conditions.

It was our turn. Actually after new year 3.1. With car train, one wagon for passengers, we went early from Nova Gorica to Bohinjska Bistrica. Well, interesting ride. A bit different. From there we went to Orožnova koča under Lisec. On Črna prst unbelievable, afternoon 14 degrees. Descent of course two hours in dark through Trtnik to Podbrdo at 20h to train. Where we met two more hikers who went to Orožnova koča and a bit further, then returned. Let me say that descent to Podbrdo was quite demanding mainly because there were lots of leaves on path that slipped. So had to be careful.

It shook a little in that wagon, otherwise quite fine. 20-minute stop in Most na Soči.

and we start the hike in cold Bohinjska Bistrica.

One part of the path goes straight up the slope without switchbacks.

The gully through which we came to the hut on Črna prst.

the train anyway only runs at eight o'clock.

I almost missed it. It's not the real one.

Afternoon from Bača direction to Crna Prst. Starting point Kocenpohar to here the road is in solid condition. Snow starts probably at some 1200-1300 meters. I used crampons above the forest line. Before that, ice axe in hand. New snow probably about 20 cm, conditions for walking are good. More about conditions, see the pictures.

In these areas some words of immigrants who came around when the beautiful linden was planted in beautiful village Rut are still preserved. But they are disappearing more and more, just like fewer young people in these areas. Kocenpoh is already one such word (cat stream, 'Katzen Bach')

Yesterday (Wednesday, Feb 5) from village Kal to Crna Prst and back.

In Železniki I listened to the weather on the radio: Kredarica -13 degrees, wind 120km/h, windchill so around -30 degrees there. At that moment I dodged the trash can at the last moment which the wind blew to the middle of the road. The theory that on southern approaches there would not be so much wind, on the basis of which I decided Crna Prst from village Kal would be a suitable goal, shook a bit for me. Well, in Kal it blew much less, so I decided to go anyway. The path in the forest up to about 1200m was dry and surprisingly without ice, higher a few cm of new snow on (mostly) leafy base, on open grasses above Babji zob there was on the path and in small depressions under new snow also some old snow. Altogether sadly little!

A bit below the saddle between Rušni vrh and Crna Prst I already felt stronger north wind blowing over the ridge, so I put on crampons and dressed more. It proved smart, since on the ridge with strong wind I probably wouldn't have had the will for it. To the hut no major problems, only last few tens of meters very carefully on the half-snow-covered edge of the path that leads above steep grasses right under the small ridge. The summit itself mostly dry. On it, interestingly, less wind than elsewhere. Despite considerable cloudiness the sea was visible.

The return was noticeably a bit more demanding. At the hut it started to blow even stronger from all sides. I wanted to sort equipment a bit, but found no shelter on any side of the building or in any corner. Under the small ridge above steep slopes the wind noticeably shook my balance, so I walked slowly and held the ice axe firmly in hands for any case. Without crampons walking in such conditions would be very risky. On the wide ridge toward Rušni vrh much less wind, a bit more only at the saddle, then the heavenly draft slowly faded with every meter of descent.

To Crna Prst I've hiked from various sides, from village Kal on Friday second time. So I already forgot how beautiful areas these actually are nasmeh

. First view of village Stržišče at info board and surprise was complete. In how beautiful areas these people live, surrounded by wreath of beautiful, now snow-covered mountains nasmeh

. We admired that view for some time, on way back we stopped there again and made analysis of the hike and toasted it with can of beer nasmeh

On whole path met only five people and one dog. We didn't socialize nasmeh

we were entering a beautiful environment

Between Rodica and Črna prst on the northern side of the ridge there is still quite a bit of snow, the southern side is practically bare - except what fell last night, that will probably disappear today.
