Last week we went to Črna prst past Orožnova hut. The path was interesting as always. The caretakers were very friendly, we had a proper lunch, then the kind landlady made us sandwiches for the trail. We went to Rodica and then descended to Ribčev laz. At the hut they almost discouraged us from the path, since they didn't know the path through Suha valley. We inform all hikers that the path is in very good condition. Since rain guided us a bit at the end, we finished it even faster. If you want to see lots of gentians, this is surely the nicest path. The views are wonderful too.

On Saturday we walked the path to Črna prst. Started in Bohinjska Bistrica and climbed to the summit past Orožnova hut. Descended via the pasture behind Črna gora. Along the path we observed lots of mountain flowers. Views from the top were somewhat obscured by low clouds. Staff in both huts very friendly...

Tomorrow I plan a shorter Sunday hike to Črna prst, what do you advise about the weather, or rather where do you recommend.

There where you know the path and it's well visible, so you don't get lost in fog. In mountains it's cold with wind, so now you need to have on softshell of medium thickness or summer with warm base layer, hat, gloves, extra spare fleece and waterproof windbreaker.

Today's decision was correct, a bit before the village Bača near Podbrdo I start walking, past the farm and abandoned house and onwards to the top of Crna Prst. Conditions are OK now, of course without winter gear no go. Not much snow, some places bare, in the forest area hard snow. Silence, peace and real paradise.

@lubadar: I don't know what to tell you, since I can expect criticism. But I'll tell you this, those small crampons are for ice and nothing else, already in the forest section hard snow and risk of slipping on steep terrain, there I had ice axe, higher up the snow was a bit mushy and somehow I got to the saddle without crampons, further up it was a bit frozen and I didn't want to risk it, so full gear. In the morning it's frozen and without winter gear it's a challenge, so to Crna Prst only with proper winter gear. And even if I write sometime that it's needed but you don't use gear on the terrain, well conditions change from hour to hour and day to day. Hikers combine winter gear differently sticks-crampons, or just ice axe, or nothing winter, or full kit. I know I hike alone, I can't allow myself mistakes, nor have them or fool around on the terrain in any other way.

Last week I got an invitation to Crna Prst. Due to prior fixed arrangements I said, I'll go next weekend, if the weather favors me . The latter held true ...and it lasted ... In fully spring-like conditions my hiking buddy and I head to this landmark between Gorenjska and Primorska...Start in village Kal. Already looking at the peak we knew we caught a wonderful day ...and here we'll feast our eyes on the Highest and surroundings, and far around views will dance for us ....Path to saddle completely bare, from here some ice first hides under leaves, but in a few minutes snow cover starts covering it. It gradually rises in switchbacks. Viewpoint offers us wonderful view of recently visited Porezen. As soon as the path exposes to sun rays, snow amount on some sections steadily decreases , here and there a bit more-it settles a little below knees. Slowly the peak appears to us. We cross south slope and soon reach saddle with signposts. To hut another 15min . Here two older gentlemen come towards us, one hiker, other ski tourer. Wonderful to watch how he carves ski into otherwise quite mushy snow . Takes off skis, joins us to the top. He rushes or skis down to valley, us waits on the ridgelet company of acquaintances. We exchange few words, then they march down, we to hut, where we'll bask in sun for about an hour . First alone for a while, then company arrives. Greets to peak, snap a few-mandatory, so photo harvest complete , then back to valley. Descent took us cca.1.5h, well, down is noticeably faster than up . Unfortunately too early for sunset view, so we soon headed home. Really happy because after, say, almost 20 years back up here. It was truly wonderful, and I'll surely return this year. Of course in dry conditions.

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone knows when Dom Zorka Jelinčiča on Črna prst opens? If anyone has any info about it... is it possible they open it already the second weekend in June, 8th or 9th June? Probably depends a lot on the weather too?
