Dovška Baba

Hey, son of nature, that was great in virgin snow.

Where does the direct descent down the gully go? Is it, if looking from top to south with hut on Rožca pasture right below, straight down or left then down or how?

Thanks for explanation and good luck!

Yes. That's right. If looking towards south and hut on right, go from the top straight down then for a while into the gully a bit left. There are two clearings. In between some spruces. Then watch out not to go all the way to the bottom of the gully. Where spruces in the middle end, there's still about 100 to 200 m and turn right. See my last pic. In the middle spruces then they end and after about those meters as I wrote go right and reach road bend.
Otherwise yes. Virgin snow gives such pleasure that you can burst from happiness. Especially if everything, including the weather, matches up. Then we can really thank Nature for such conditions. Just now a few days to wait because quite some has fallen.
Hope I was precise enough in description. If not write on ZS. Regards and happy steps and full adrenaline descent, in the embrace of the mountains. :-)
Attaching pic where to go right afterwards. Taken from road bend. Regards. nasmeh
Photo taken from a road bend. If you drive up, it is visible on the right side. A gap between two spruces can be seen.1

I park a bit above Dovje and head towards Dovška Baba. Snow starts in the forest a bit below Dovška Rožca pasture. Snow doesn't sink too much, track is well trodden. From Rožca to Baba summit there are already many bare parts, so no issues with excessive trampling here mežikanje
Nice sunny warm day, only on top cold wind blowing. I return to shepherd hut, where it was nice to sit a bit in the warm sun. When the day tilted to afternoon, wind started whistling around shepherd hut corners on Rožca nasmeh It chased me back to valley jezik
Nice greetings to all mežikanje

Yesterday, May 9th, I went to Dovška Baba (from Dovje village). Weather was quite nice, some sun and some clouds, windy towards the top. The path was dry all the way.

Nice and not too hot day on Dovška Baba, enlivened with colorful flowers and wonderful view of the Julian Alps, where there's still quite some snow.

Sunny in Karavanke today above 1700 m. Alpine pasture on Dovška Rožca still in fog, so terrace sitting was off. Snow windblown on slope to top, so lots of bare ground already. Still faint ski tracks from few days ago visible.

Since our "little one" this week finally became the proud owner of her very own touring gear and the impatient anticipation before the first test had reached boiling point, the free Friday came just right nasmeh… It was free because as the "first worm" she had no obligations on information days mežikanje. We assumed skiing on Dovška Baba wouldn't be outstanding, but since we pledge to aesthetic not just skiing pleasures, we went anyway… and got in the end everything we wanted: better than expected touring and experiential fairy tale in two acts: down in the forest wintery mossy in all shades of gray… up an explosion of heavenly blue and views over foggy sea… Let anyone say anything about Friday the 13th… we'd like another like that please thank you… nasmeh

P.S. Didn't meet "hikers", but judging by the sight on the slope from pasture to summit it sinks quite a bit. Even hardened touring ski track didn't help not to sink deep. Snowshoes can be welcome aid. ☺

It's gray in the forest... but nothing boring for us...10
Moss anyway makes its charm...11
...and we like it in a special way...12
...even though the sun isn't shining...13
Then it suddenly appeared through the fog and let us know that it awaits us... a little higher...14
And indeed... below the pasture we slipped out of the foggy embrace...15

From the pasture back into the mossy forest....26
Hoarfrost has obviously lingered below all day long....27
In the end we also don't know whether we like larches more in autumn when they are golden, or in winter dressed in white hoarfrost.. :-)28

What can I say GITA, wonderful pics as always, let alone live, not speaking of pleasures especially from "the little one". Wish you snow stays long on mountain slopes so you enjoy winter joys to satiety. nasmehmežikanje

Those trees covered with moss are to me also real winter fairy tale. Gita did you start down at power plant on road or higher? Thanks for answer.
