Yesterday first time on Dovška Baba. Wonderful and warm day with breathtaking views - Julijci, Karavanke, Austria, all the way to Ljubljana (in fog), Lake Bled was nicely visible.

I recommend also a side visit to the overlooked beautiful viewpoint Bela peč. (from the marked path which brings us from Dovje to the macadam road, left, 15 min ascent)

Has anyone been in recent days to Dovška Baba and maybe even further along the ridge to Golica? I'm curious about the snow.

Today I went to Dovška Baba from the valley – from the power plant at Mlinci over the abandoned alpine pasture Goreljše, below Bela peč to Lahov preval and through the forest to Dovška Rožca. From the valley Dovška Baba looks quite well snow-covered, but actually little snow, just enough for pleasant walking. Sun was scarce through cirrus clouds, not much frost and no wind either.

A couple of my pics from yesterday and a short video clip. For skiing I was at the top around 12.30 a bit late, as the snow was already quite heavy.

When you come out of the forest to Dovška Rožca it is immediately necessary to take a dozen identical photos

This touring skier is obviously not interested in the breeding habits of ptarmigans :)

The weather and the view were wonderful. I made a mistake by listening to the ARSO forecast that it would be cloudy that morning, so we didn't hurry and there was no more dry powder. So for real whooping on skis I'd have needed to be at the top at least one hour earlier.

Dovška Baba is currently reachable only by skis or on foot with snowshoes. Without that, no way.
On skis I started at the last farm up to which you can drive by car, further the amount of snow increases quickly.
Below southern snow, in the upper half beautiful powder. velik nasmeh

Yesterday on Dovška Baba. Start a bit above Dovje. Snow starts at about 900 m. Conditions varied, from southern snow at the start, to frozen snow (mainly on the road where I joined at about 1300 m). To the hut with some minor issues.....from the hut upwards snow sinking to knees nasmeh

under Hruški vrh some has already slipped

Today from Dovje to Baba and to Koprivnjak on Austrian side, nice sunny weather, wonderful views, no snow. Total ascent 1250 m, walking 6 hours.

Today on skis. Drove by car to Dovje and further on forest road past the turnoff for Rogarjev rovt, to altitude about 1150m, where there was enough snow to ski. At about 1500m entered fog that enveloped me all the way to the top, although it brightened momentarily from sun rays above. Snow in the morning in lower part quite hard but not too icy, upper part similar, just with 1-2 cm softer dry layer on top. Skiing from top to Planina Dovška Rožca could have been very good due to soft snow surface, if not afraid of missing the track or falling into a hole because of thick fog and thus went very slowly and carefully.

Down the road skiing was quite strenuous due to torn and quite hard snow, last few hundred meters took off skis because snow too shallow and rocks visible. Just before end a patch of sky cleared for a moment, Triglav appeared. Tour ended with a cherry on top.
