I've roamed a lot but some summiteers have also slept in huts, ok I understand everything, that there's no bathroom and shower, but if the keepers are super I forget all that and if you want also zeeeeeeeely good food with it at normal prices head to DOBRČO, keepers Jana and Milan with team didn't get awards for most friendly hut in Slovenia for nothing this year, sadly all that was written before is true .....

@rekar: This ain't possible here, no, no, here it can't be done, that a tree could blossom and grow up to the sky. We don't go to heavens here, we prefer staying home, abroad you might shatter the image of our cherished idol. This ain't possible here, no, no, here it can't be done, that a tree could blossom, and grow up to the sky. We prefer to slack a bit cut the tree down to the ground, undergrowth and low bushes, we are the majority in the forest.

Old folks used to say: Everything will be, just we won't be. Otherwise Van Sims thinks correctly, because progress, spiritual development, humanity, responsibility must start building from one's own roots and not from adopted Balkan mentality. That's why we are where we are.

More democracy more "bullshit" Parties have been happening in huts since they were built, and according to older keepers it was even more frequent and wild back then. Nowadays everyone takes the right to complain about every little thing (no showers, no wiener with fries etc etc..)I'm not a supporter of general partying after 10 pm, but we have to realize that people go to mountains also with company and if someone cheers up in the evening it's not the end of the world. Of course partying must be considerate to others. Honestly it pisses me off that now we have to nail everyone to the cross if a couple get "tipsy" in the evening!! ..and no they are not alcoholics.. An alcoholic probably doesn't bother going to mountains if he can get drunk in the valley...every day.. Everyone in Slovenia knows that e.g. Kredarica is the most "frequented" hut, with lots of "non-hikers" at heart, so whoever goes there looking for peace is solely to blame for not finding it. What's right and wrong..hmm..everyone has their own right..we're just missing a bit of healthy peasant common sense (if you're partying be considerate, and if you're grumpy don't act like it's the end of the world) Personally I also prefer "off road" rather than pilgrim paths, and if I get a bit buzzed in a hut a couple times a year, I don't care if someone side-eyes me (and I emphasize, I don't make noise!!) We have friendly and unfriendly keepers, fact is they are always torn between customers with all sorts of conflicting wishes, how well they navigate is seen by their satisfaction. Never will everyone be satisfied.. fuck it that's how it is. ..

Daaam, I completely agree with your opinion. We go to mountains also for socializing. And one more thought, a bit for fun: When you're drunk everyone sees you, when you're thirsty nobody does. Best regards

We are regular guests in Bovec - Trenta. This year, unfortunately, with the worst experiences so far. Visiting the source of Soča and Kekec's homestead is among the "must-dos" of our vacation stays in these areas. After a bad experience at Kekec's homestead we went angrily but hoping for better staff attitude to the hut at Soča source. Here older girls have been in charge for years. After quite unfriendly service I was quite surprised when they charged me extra bread with the platter ??? Is this everywhere like that? I wouldn't mention that it was ordinary store bread which was already quite dry on top of it. It would be interesting to know if they charge extra bread with sandwich too? Fact is, you can't eat neither platter nor sandwich (in principle) without bread!!! She printed the bill on the back of one of the notepad sheets she probably uses for orders. The menu board had no prices, bread wasn't listed on it. Anyway, then it became clearer to me why the access road to the hut is parked up for about 500 m, and guests next to cars happily munch sandwiches from coolers in the grass.

The staff in this "mountain" hut (more like a lowest type eatery) is really hopeless. Whatever they say nothing holds and some own rules. They once ripped me off badly for accommodation, so I was looking elsewhere at 19h and found in Lepena. Shame. Regarding Kekec's homestead it's like this, it would make sense for the owner to put up a sign there (at the road fork) and specify which guests are welcome and there would be peace. It's nice there anyway and simply not intended for simple folks who expect something simple in the style of simple Kekec according to the name. No misunderstanding, I was there too and when I saw what scene it is I left because I simply follow the rules defined by the owner. Some of you just can't accept that.

Disappointment with the hut at 7 Triglav Lakes. Yesterday I set off on a long-desired tour from Savica waterfall via Komarča to the hut at 7 lakes. When I wanted to dry my soaked and wet shirts around the stove, as usual in huts and also to warm up a bit, unfortunately I find the stove completely cold. I fiddle a bit and continue along the 7 lakes valley to Zasavska hut at Prehodavci, drink excellent tea and immediately return the same way back to the 7 lakes hut. Right after leaving Prehodavci heavy rain started pouring and fell all the way to 7 lakes. So I arrived back wet as a drowned rat. Again I want to dry my now reserve clothes around the stove, but the stove is still cold. Then I ask the lady, otherwise friendly, if anything will be lit, she says it burned all day, now it's already out... Before going to sleep I ask about morning coffee before heading on to Komna, get answer that nothing happens before 7:30 am.(at Prešeren hut at Stol a month ago the very friendly keeper Leon told me just say when I want to get up even at 5 if I want, he'll prepare breakfast and coffee.)In the morning I dress again in half-wet clothes and head on home to Komna, where they were incredibly accommodating, and I even got a already peeled apple while they were peeling for strudel, and I only drank one coffee, all handled by just three, two cooks and waiter, at 7 lakes hut I counted at least 6-7 cooks including waitresses, and they can't keep one stove "alive" (or they save like that) and organize so that at least one staff gets up earlier on hiker's request. P.S.Around Bohinj there's no such problem with firewood either. For consideration to PD responsibles.http://www.hribi.net/slike/jezen.gif

Aha, good thing the Hut at Soča Source was closed when I was there this spring. @insider: Did you order the bread yourself or did they serve it without your order? In the latter case you don't have to pay for it. They tried to rip me off like that too (local tavern and Dom in Kamniška Bistrica) but I refused payment. In the first case they immediately knew what time it is and kindly issued new bill, in the second I had to argue a bit but he gave in saying he'll pay for the bread. Yeah right! He has orders to slip bread to everyone and if guest bites ok, complains well maybe one in twenty. Oh and while we praise abroad over Slovenia, abroad is even worse. Maybe not bread, but sometimes cunning as foxes to rip you off extra. Too many cases to list. Austria maybe not so critical yet, most critical Italy and Netherlands, partly Germany too. The ordering system I revealed a few pages back eliminates 90% of such rips.

A month ago my husband and I slept at Dolič. The young girl (probably student) who served was very friendly, service quick. Since the hut was fully booked we slept in the dining room. The keeper brought us blankets to cover. Since there was a quite noisy group in the dining room I thought no sleep, but at 10 pm they turned off lights and soon peace reigned, but loud snoring started, so I didn't sleep anyway. We got up before 5, the student was already at her "workplace". After return from Triglav we stopped at the hut again to eat a bit more. Two couples (around 50) came to the hut. One lady complained to the keeper that her stomach hurts and she feels bad, so she ordered one brinjevec. The keeper went somewhere, soon returned with chamomile tea for the lady and didn't want payment. I thought that was very nice. So all good about this hut and staff.

@VanSims I didn't order bread, which would seem first-class stupidity to me when ordering a slice (read comparison with sandwich). This kind of rip-off with charging for bread we've somewhat forgotten, as it happened once, in different times and circumstances. Similarly, charging for cutlery has become fashionable again (50 cents = eating utensils + paper napkin). In Greece you can't avoid it at all, but they always serve butter and bread with it. Hats off and recognition to our honest spots that for that price also add a spoon of lard, cottage cheese,... and a slice of bread.

I have luckily good experiences with most huts and their keepers. But of course there are exceptions. And one such is e.g. the hut at Črna prst. Don't know why, but it never sits well with me. When I was up there a few weeks ago, I wanted to order apple strudel (at 8:30). I look at the price list and quickly change my mind (4€ piece ), so I order just tea. Behind me a couple orders strudel, but they don't get it because the keeper just started kneading. It'll be a bit to wait. At half past eight in the morning and on a weekend!!! But luckily I think most huts are ok.

With the hut on Črni prsti I have super experiences though. We were up there on Tuesday, I think. Very friendly keeper, super food, prices normal too. Even offered us free fruit cup, but we had eaten too much before. p.s. it's true, I didn't order strudel

@VanSims: I follow this forum and what can I say. All the time just whiner and you complain, always looking for some conspiracies. Complaining about this and that hut. It doesn't lead anywhere. I've crossed many mountains and visited quite a few huts, and in most cases they were very friendly without bad intentions. Maybe somewhere they try to earn, so what. Life and work in a hut isn't easy. And it would never occur to me like you to refuse the bill etc. A while ago you heavily criticized the hut at Gospodična. But look at that. I go there often and am extremely satisfied. Excellent food, service, atmosphere. After your criticisms I asked other visitors a bit and all praise the good service, food ... From this I can conclude you're just a regular whiner, which is characteristic of a large part of the nation right now.
