Viharnik, "sadly" I have to agree with you, since I too have only positive experiences with the offer and friendliness in foreign huts. Well, in the end I don't mind the friendliness in yesterday's hut, but there would be nothing wrong if the waitress had said food had run out or suggested e.g. goulash, which besides jota was the only spoon dish on offer and we would have chosen that, not bring us tinted soup with cabbage smell right under our noses. For such (non)quality meal you can't charge 5 euros! Sure we had to ask for bread separately,... ah, no sense in adding more as it could start unnecessary polemics. Probably someone regarding service-offer in that hut could say something positive too. So I'll stop here, but I'll remember the experience.

I eat a hot meal in huts if I'm on the trail all day and if the hut is somewhere in between. This year I've used that quite a few times. I know exactly where I ate the best and worst, but I don't want to make a public ranking. I believe cooks in huts are good and less good. Every hiker has their own criteria and it's hard to please everyone. L.P.

You know what I'll tell you Hribovc, in the hut on Peč the bograč is the best. Lp

Probably holds for bograč from there, otherwise not everyone eats spicy. Exception is India where even women eat really hot no problem. Me too recently dragged home spicy dry sausage from Mercator, origin Spain and it's really something special .

I agree with viharnik regarding huts abroad and comparison with our huts. But I have to say that despite what we all have to say about our huts, personally so far in our huts (and of course abroad) I haven't eaten badly. Shame that some keepers spoil such good service with unnecessary other (side?) bad things that then reduce their reputation.

and if I just hook onto the above post: fresh experience from Vogel, from hut "Merjasec": I was there last time really years ago, otherwise I always pass by, today I stopped again. This is no (longer) hut but just inn and the young guy serving could at least "peek" into etiquette... subjective opinion of course... otherwise great day for circular tour Savica, Komna, Vogel, Savica.

A praise for Blejska hut and the keepers, we were there for the first time in that area, hope we will return. Friendliness, good will and excellent ričet with 5+. LP!

Hut on Zelenica. Open, but only drinks available. Forget food. Incomprehensible, PD Tržič? Otherwise great Sunday (also) for Vrtača.

Sam.volk, yeah then I don't know, maybe just then it wasn't the best for them, as I wrote, none ate it to the end... , meanwhile jota was outright excellent, good that I chose jota But next time when I go up, I'll definitely try nudlne kloce, many say they are the best there

... yeah goulash, I have to say something on this goulash topic,... then sam.volk you haven't eaten the real one yet. At our home husband prepares it several times, of course for bigger company. And last year when we were on Peč, mine wanted to try goulash - curiosity tormented him to see what it's like ... well it wasn't bad, just rather weak, , shadow of real goulash ... so I wonder how some even get the idea to put goulash on the menu and then can't cook it. Nice culinary greeting!

On today's visit to Dobrča we were all pleasantly surprised by the hut keepers in the hut. Friendly and pleasant conversationalists served us excellent food too! One portion such that two can really fill up, tasty, hot. An example to many!

Hello, maybe a similar topic already exists somewhere, if it does I'd ask the admin to move it. I'm interested if there are any calls for hut keeping in the 2012 season. Interested in eastern Karawanks and Pohorje and rest of northeastern Slovenia. Thanks, Blaž

Hribovc: I heard the long-time hut keeper at Smrekovec hut is retiring.

....continue here --> hut keepers, food, issuing bills etc, I've also dropped by huts a few times, but no bad opinions.

I also have nothing nice to say,... if you're not precise with prices yourself, they casually try to overcharge on payment, we've experienced that twice, now we're used to asking prices first, calculate ourselves and watch the bill more, yeah partying is almost always there, not only during race, when more visitors from across the border ... one year we were earlier and drank tea in hut ... remains of night partying still visible. So I already dread sleeping in some hut. LP! ps And so our tours are almost all day hikes.

I agree about order in huts, that's why I don't want to sleep over. In A and CH silence at 22.00, so you can rest quietly for next day.
