Yesterday I did a circular tour Tamar-Kotovo sedlo-Jalovec-škrbina-Tamar. The path is mostly dry. The snowfield above the ozebnik to Goličica can be bypassed. Only the snowfield below the škrbina requires an ice axe and crampons.

I'm missing a photo of Mangart, the nearest big neighbor?!

IgorZ: thanks. Not that I would stumble, but the closest neighbor deserves a published photo.

@Bojan, waiting for ZS, @panda, you're right, first neighbor is first after all, so I added it right away.

I, first pic ... wonder of nature, shame that we are prepared to sacrifice so little for preserving the pristine mountain world. I was on Jalovec 4 years ago on descent thunderstorm caught us and health problems in group, so on this hike I don't have... Definitely the most demanding mountain in Slovenian pp.

Every mountain can be more or less demanding... Often it's like that, that a large part of the difficulty is added by weather conditions... So, first weather, then everything else... I agree with what's written, I hope to stand on top soon... Cheers!

I wouldn't fully agree with urbancek regarding weather conditions. Because in bad weather we usually don't go anyway, except rare exceptions, who then occasionally have something go wrong and need to go meet them. Weather conditions as such don't affect the difficulty of the approach to the mountain, assuming conditions are ideal, i.e. dry rock and in winter good snow conditions. Very annoying at least to me is the wind, which has also already pushed someone off the ridge or simply flipped them over, followed by a slip, at least in winter usually to death. To Janez on @jaz's picture of course this couldn't happen, but it's a nice memory of meetings with him. If Jalovec is the most demanding mountain I wouldn't know, I've been up there over 50 times, about 10 times also in winter and winter conditions and it was always mainly nice, never particularly difficult, maybe also because weather conditions didn't bother me.

@IgorZlodej: I wrote that assuming conditions are not ideal, which I hope is logical to everyone I agree, wind is on some ascents a very dangerous thing... And also the difficulty of traversing some slope or incline can be different even in nice weather just if there's a lot of moisture in the air... We will use more energy for the ascent... physiology... Because often it's like that that we make the tour difficult or easy ourselves... If we are on the edge with strength the tour of course suddenly becomes very difficult... Best regards!

It's a bit off-topic, but I didn't start it. It's logical to go to the mountains in as ideal conditions as possible, so discussing non-ideal conditions misses the point. We should never allow ourselves to reach the limit of our strength on a tour. That's called lack of psychophysical fitness, the consequence is incapacity, total exhaustion, which consequently leads to an accident. Fear-respect for a mountain can of course be overcome with proper preparation, ultimately also with a guide. Otherwise, it's quite right that Jalovec is what it is.

Jalovec is like cream on top of a fruit cup, if I write it pastry-chef style in the mountaineering sense. Truly unforgettable "fruit cup" Good luck to all!

Today I first met user @velkavrh, goal Jalovec, up via Škrbina, back towards Kotovo sedlo, snowfield crossing, this time no need under the notch, could go deep below. Path strenuous, crumbling, dangerous, helmet essential. From Jalovec to Kotovo sedlo all crumbly rocks. Path was okay for me, but too little for adrenaline, how @velkavrh liked it he'll add himself.

Me too today at 9:05 on summit Went variant Flori-Zadnja Trenta - Jalovec (past shelter under Špička, took 3h15min, downhill dawdled a bit, total incl. snacks, photos ca. 7h round trip. Impressions: +: great weather, very friendly caretakers under Špička, nice path and views -: mountain on PZS badge would deserve on mentioned path some pole with path signs (variants, difficulty, altitude etc.), markings and general signs on path could be better... Chains loose in places, pitons illogically placed... e.g. how should a foreigner know where to go at junction where nothing is written... But, it was a beautiful day, no need to list more... Best regards to all! P.S: Wasn't there once a pole on the summit or what was it?

@urbanček What do you think, do they have signposts on the Himalayas too?
