Jalovec

Mukica, congratulations to you and your team for the ascent to Jalovec. That sentence is good, "still reliving yesterday". Jalovec is something special and it's justified that a person is still a bit above the ground from excitement a few days after the ascentnasmeh Good luck and I wish you many more nice ascents.

I'll use this forum also for a question: is the path from Trenta over Jalovška škrbina comparable in difficulty to the path from Ravenska Kočna via Frischaufova to Grintovec?

irska.. I think the path over Jalovška škrbina doesn't lag behind the path via Frischaufova at all, it's not particularly dangerous, if you've overcome that path to Grintovec you'll also manage this one to Jalovec, of course you need to be careful, onwards courageously, good luck!!!

hi, I have one question:

I haven't been to Jalovec yet, so I'm interested which path is most suitable for ascent and how much time you then need on descent to get to the Shelter below Špička.

thanks lp

Me too, I haven't been to Jalovec yet, but I already have everything planned. If you search a bit on hribi.net, you find all descriptions, walking times and nice pictures, you gotta take some time. Everything already written many times, no offense - lp

Jalovec - first time; dreamy, even though not everything went according to plan.
I started from Tamar and aimed via Kotovo sedlo to the summit. The climbing section is interestingly routed, a bit up, a bit down, then vertically up again, nice and panoramic.
Trouble started when descending towards Škrbina. I simply couldn't find the entrance in the increasingly thick fog. I bypassed the entry to the closed route of Jalovec glacier and searched further there. Nothing but fog, and I hadn't been there before.
Finally I descended via a secured wall, which I still don't exactly know what it is in Kot.
Since I arranged a ride from Vršič in between, I headed there.
Thanks to @rozki and sister who drove me to Tamar to the car, treated me to beer and pizza and all.
Whoever knows where I missed the Škrbina entrance, please comment.

Jalovec is totally awesome.

Towards Julijci it's already clouding up. Triglav and the other highest peaks are still holding out well.8

I found Ozebnik, but I mustn't go there, nor would I. Everything crackles, crumbles, rustles, ...16

Suddenly this. Should I go back? Where into the fog??18
I descended down here.19
This is that wall I don't know. But it is a very nice climb, I must say.20

I'm not entirely clear where you were looking for that branch to Škrbina, but around the glacier from above, you wouldn't find it. If I understand correctly, you then descended the Goličica wall and headed towards Vršič? Well, if so, at the end when you descend from that wall, instead of right to Vršič, go left to Mali Kot, and from there down to Tamar.

Yeah. But I'm wondering if that's the right and shortest path over Škrbina. It seems like it would lengthen it a bit with that Goličica, looking at the map???
Thanks for the reply.

Last picture, there you should go up that scree (to some saddle), then descent on scree, then steep drop on rocks, see my pictures on page 19. But there, over Škrbina, it's not for everyone.

As ljubiteljgora says, on the last picture, when you came out of the wall, you should have gone left and up the scree, but you turned right down.

No Jany, now that you've uploaded the pictures your story is clearer to me. nasmeh This path over Škrbina is the only and shortest path to Tamar, otherwise there by the last picture, a bit higher, there are also signs for Mali Kot and Tamar!!! Didn't you see them??

On Thursday 18.8. we did a full-day trip to Jalovec. Started at 6am at Vršič and past the shelter below Špička began ascending towards Jalovec. The long path to the shelter didn't drag, but some sections are very poorly marked (markings and signs very faded). Most height gained crossing Veliki Ozebnik, then a bit harder ascent to the panoramic and quite airy ridge. From there soon reached the summit, which around 12 was fairly crowded. View was wonderful. Returned same way and stopped briefly at the shelter. Back to Vršič at 20h, just before dark. Long and very nice tour. LPnasmeh

After 14 days in Carnic Alps and Prealps, I craved some "Fanta od fare" again. Started at night, so didn't feel the heat either. Alone on summit, met some folks on descent. But a herd of chamois descending straight into Loški žleb made my already nice morning even better. Cheers!

Today I also visited "our boy". Left car in Planica and biked to Tamar. From there over Kotovo sedlo to Jalovec. In the slope below Kotovo sedlo I see a group following me. Before going into the climbing section I took a breather, meanwhile the hikers caught up. They say escorting their friend to Jalovec who celebrates today. Together to the top. First time on Jalovec this way, seems nicely routed and excellently protected path. Wonderful views on summit. Long break followed, no hurry on this fine day. Returned to Kotovo sedlo then scree back to Tamar. Heat scorched on scree as never before, so the drink celebrant treated in Tamar hit the spot. After good hour rest said bye to nice company and biked to Planica. Few minutes to car. Nice day on nice mountain nasmeh Best to all.

Jalovec... well, thoughts already drifting to today yesterday... and since Loška Koritnica is currently closest to me and I haven't been here yet, the decision turned out more than excellent. Path first along closed road, then forest path leading under the wall and already scrambling on rocks and cablesnasmeh, but only briefly. After good two hours already admiring sunny Loška wall from saddle Čez Brežice. Followed ascent to Škrbina za Gradom, real scramble, and descent to shelter pod Špičko. First people today, and those were the caretakers at the hutmežikanje. Continue on "classic" path under Veliki Ozeznik to Jalovec summit, where a couple people basked in the sun at just right temp and cloudless views. Descended to Kotovo sedlo and back to Loška Koritnica.
Liked the path, no trace of current summer hiker crowds, shady in morning, varied, though some cables or pegs torn, but doable withoutmežikanje.
