What's the snow condition like, variant over Kotovo sedlo? Is the bivouac open? Or is the key picked up somewhere? Thanks in advance for the answers....

Jalovec, as well as the rest of the high mountains of the Julian Alps and KSA, has snow in some gullies, plateaus and cirques, continuous or a bit less. On these paths full winter gear is mandatory and especially caution on snow conditions changing in the morning to frozen, in the afternoon slushy, and knowledge of walking and belaying in such. Bivouac at Kotovo sedlo is always open and provides shelter to climbers who guard it and tidy up after themselves.

From Zapodna to Mali kot, then over the wall of Goličica (dry) and past glacieret to Jezerce (hard frozen snow), and to the summit. From the west it was blowing quite nastily and at the end drove clouds and fog too. It snowed a little or almost nothing. Descent to Jezerce and under big glacieret in the direction of the shelter under Špička, and back to the valley.

Skiing across the glacier looks excellent. Terrain super. Ascent to the summit is risky, there's ice 2 cm below but pure soft snow. Crampons hardly hold anything. But it can still be done.

Such a demanding ascent is by no means suitable for an introductory tour! (predecessor deleted his post, why?) PS: The photo is symbolic and does not show current conditions!

Previous poster just looked for company for Jalovec, current conditions are .... ...., but hope they'll be good later. Janez's advice is well-meant, haven't been to summit in winter myself yet, not that I desperately want to reach it, but would go up if mountain lets me descend.

I'd ask those who climb Jalovec soon after such good conditions to be so kind as to write a few words about ZS conditions in advance, thanks.

Until a serious thaw hits the heights and only partly stabilizes the wind slab and crust, there's nothing to seek there. You can only do an express toboggan to Loška Koritnica or even earlier to Tamar.

@viharnik: I wrote, soon after such good conditions and what you said above in the first part of the sentence, it should go through. I'm aware of the dangers but I'd be glad for a report when the snow stabilizes. If there are no solid conditions, I won't go, as I have no wish or plan to reach Jalovec in winter conditions; rather, I like demanding tours, while for easier ones I go in the afternoon when time chases me.

Conditions in the mountains are very bad, because every time it snowed there was strong wind in between. Wait and watch the weather and later climbers' reports.

This is how Jalovec looked from Tamar last Sunday, so before another 0.5-1 meter of snow fell. Somehow I feel that Ozebnik is still untouched, but there are large avalanches on the top.

Yesterday (Sunday) at Kotovo sedlo. Descent in upper shady parts really super. Hard base with some powder. Where sun shines though, it doesn't thaw enough and crust breaks through. However such parts up top almost none or easily avoid them. Below crust and softness, so lower part (before forest) quite tricky or watch feet At 13:00 sun starts retreating from upper parts and starts refreezing.
