What kind of snow did you pile on the saddle, mountain lover?

redbull, no wonder they looked at you as if you were from another planet, since only a few can pull that off. And what material are you made of!? Really, congrats! Good that I know, if I find gear in bushes in the lowlands somewhere, that it's from such chamois that "fly" around. Pics with you up front are interesting too!! I'm looking forward to your new feats. big grin

Today the crystal shone like a ruby. From Tamar to Kotovo sedlo and to the summit to wait for sunrise. The moon accompanied me all the way to the top and lit the path with its glow. Below the summit, one needs to cross one snowfield in the gully, which with a bit more care is nicely passable. I return via Ozebnik and through the avalanche chute quickly back to the scree. Full winter gear mandatory.
In Tamar some barely had coffee when my bike already sped on macadam to Planica. big grin

Hello, does anyone maybe plan to go to Jalovec tomorrow? Sadly I haven't been yet so I'm seeking company that would take me along, as I realize it's better to go in two and with someone who knows, much safer despite my experience. I'll be happy for company, cheers wink

Hello mountaineers!
I'm interested if it's possible from Tamar up some path without winter gear or which path best avoids snow? Plan is up from Tamar on the safest path and then descent to Vršič past the hut under Špička. I can take ice axe (no crampons) but I'm more of a summer hiker and don't have much experience with walking in winter conditions. In summer tours I'm quite experienced (Mangart-via italiana, Triglav over plemenice, Tominškova, Čez Prag, Prisank through window, Hanzova on Mojstrovka, Škrlatica, Viš, Špik,...). Can snow be safely crossed with the help of an ice axe and without special technical knowledge?

Then you go up direction Kotovo sedlo, cross short snowfield, which is not problematic with ice axe help just safer. From summit return direction Jalovška škrbina where under Goličica junction for Vršič. Nice circular tour which I did last summer in opposite direction.
Given your described tours vertigo shouldn't trouble you, for your legs you know how much they endure, good luck smile.

Anyone been recently to Jalovec from Loška koritnica? Winter gear needed anywhere else?

Yesterday to Jalovec from Loška Koritnica - Čez Brežice - Škrbina za Gradom - shelter under Špička - Jalovec summit - Kotovo sedlo and back to Loška Koritnica.
No snow on the path, so winter gear can stay at home, and that snowfield under Jalovec towards Kotovo sedlo is not worth mentioning.
I met many hikers who were coming from Tamar; on the way up from Loška Koritnica and back down to Loška Koritnica, I met only two hikers from Mangart towards Kotovo sedlo and low in the valley two more walkers.
The path is very interesting and long, but rewarded with fantastic views of nearby and distant peaks and valleys.
In the middle part towards Čez Brežice, the path is heavily overgrown with bushes and grass, so long pants are obligatory here, preferably waterproof, as I was wet up to my waist. The path is hard to follow in this section and you can easily "get lost".
A path detail is certainly halfway from the pass Čez Brežice to Škrbina za Gradom, specifically where we cross precipitous areas over scree under the wall of Mali Ozebnik. WARNING: on this part the path is damaged due to a landslide, there is no protection, the cable is torn and the path is full of debris!!! Immediately after, the path goes right and steeply upwards; there is protection, but one anchor is pulled out, so the cable is very slack - be careful there too!!!
Follows nice scrambling to Škrbina za Gradom and descent to Špička.
The path to Jalovec and descent to Kotovo sedlo is known to all and has no peculiarities.
Then followed the descent from Kotovo sedlo to Loška Koritnica.
The path is excellently routed, protections are OK, only on one part is the cable torn, which poses no problem.
Already in the lower part, there is an obstacle: fallen trees, but they can be stepped over somehownasmeh

buda1 Extremely nice description. I went up yesterday through Jalovec notch (where you need to cross about 10m snowfield), which doesn't represent a bigger problem. Back over Kotovo sedlo nasmeh.

Also photo report of my 2-day trip to Jalovec. Since I know my legs wouldn't hold a one-day trip to Jalovec, on Friday at work at 10 I decide, after a short refresh at home, to drive towards Vršič and arrive at the hut under Špička the same day. Overnight, next day climb to the summit and then return to the valley. To the hut I needed good 3h. That last part towards the hut I went a bit slower, as I waited for the sun to set so there wouldn't be such heat. The hut keepers are awesome! I'd adopt Nada as a mom! velik nasmeh At the hut I overnight with 6 Austrians. The evening is livened up by Nada and Austrians with their communication. Nada explains the ascent to the summit to them half Slovenian-half German, they rush with new questions half Slovenian-half German. They got along, I just laughed velik nasmeh In the morning we were up just after 5, as we didn't want to miss the sunrise. We almost forgot to take a pic, as we were so busy filling our heart and soul with memories. Soon the smell of breakfast wafted over, after breakfast we head to the summit. Just before entering the wall we hear a helicopter around Triglav. We just look at each other, everyone crosses themselves and we start climbing. The ascent path is quite varied. Lots of fine scree that slides. Good that rocks have good grip. So I went more on rocks. Markings not visible at some places. On the way back I strayed off the path. I clawed back with my butt to get back on the right path velik nasmeh On the ridge a little wind. Same on summit, but view fantastic. Since Jalovec is king of our mountains, I became its queen for a moment. And it didn't resist at all nasmeh At summit around 9 there were about 10 of us. Some from Vršič, some from Tamar. And many more climbed while we descended. Don't know how I would have gasped to the top in that heat. Good I went the day before and overnighted. The way back to Vršič dragged on, no end in sight. That last 'slope' before Vršič.. I thought it wouldn't end. Legs couldn't anymore! But it went! nasmeh For the end refreshment in Lake Jasna in Kranjska Gora. That's briefly, sorry for the writing! velik nasmeh Good luck!

Kotovo sedlo is due to the handy and comfortable bivouac one of the nicer spots for observing the starry sky, as it's far from big cities. Besides clear night, need some luck with weather and Moon. On Saturday we reached bivouac at 22h amid lightning in the north. Just two spots left free! Morning offered quick walk to summit, unfortunately views not the clearest.
Pictures say more....

On Saturday and Sunday we wandered around Jalovec and its neighbors. The weather was gorgeous. First we climbed Jalovec via Kotovo sedlo. After a short break which Pantani obviously immortalized, we descended towards the Hut under Špičko. Meanwhile we all also climbed Veliki Ozebnik. That's a nice 15-minute scramble to the top. Before the end of the day I climbed Vrh Zelenic with my daughter and colleague Simona. The ascent isn't that demanding but the descent is quite tricky. At the hut we must certainly praise the friendly and obliging caretakers. The ričet was apparently a straight five but it ran out for me. However the jota with huge sausage wasn't any worse.
Next day we returned to Tamar via Jalovška Škrbina. En route four of us climbed also Goličica. Although we are not alpinists or precisely because of that we secured ourselves on it especially descending in proper alpinistic fashion.
Finally I would honestly criticize the PD in charge of the path from Jalovec to Špičko (supposedly PD Jesenice) for the incredibly poorly marked path. The path from Jalovski Ozebnik over Jalovška Škrbina isn't much better either.
