Regarding walking it's true, as driving to the hut was never allowed.

Don't talk nonsense. A good few years ago you could drive right to the hut. Legally, not smuggling. I myself drove to the hut quite often and shortened the tour that way.

Once upon a time... Since the accident at the ramp happened, driving is prohibited. nasmeh

Already before the barrier there was a (partial) ban. I know it was like that for some time, that you could drive in and out in the morning and afternoon at certain hours. Since I didn't believe the barrier would actually be removed when I left Tamar, I preferred to do the tour on foot from Planica twice. And just at that time when there was such a regulation that you could drive in at certain hours and out at certain ones, the accident happened. The barrier was open, but since it was like the ones in Zadnjica back then, i.e., it didn't lift but opened "horizontally", it was "facing" towards Tamar and the unfortunate guy (cyclist) crashed into it at high speed and was fatally injured. Then they removed the barrier and put up a sign prohibiting traffic.

...and extended the tour by 45 minutes, which is a nice warm-up before the ascent to the king. It's already a luxury to drive to Planicamežikanje

In those times you could drive to Tamar until 8am and return after 6pm. If earlier, you found the parking collector and he opened the barrier for you. That system was OK for me, warm-up was enough on the relatively flat path from the hut. Anyway, that's what happened to the guy and what can we do. Maybe the accident wouldn't have happened if the barrier was painted red-white. But that's TNP. Recently at Peričnik they complained that in winter TNP doesn't allow any lights at the waterfall. Often TNP is an end in itself and hinders development.

The color of the barrier in the boy's case is unimportant. The way of opening - closing should be vertical and not horizontal.

Maybe the problem isn't in the barrier color, but in cyclists' culture. I don't wish an accident on anyone, but the boy was solely to blame himself. That because of such stories we're all worse off didn't seem right to me even then and still doesn't.

Mountains are for walking on foot, not with cars, of which there are already too many everywhere anyway. Our predecessors conquered many things from the valley without all this newfangled gear and didn't whine to anyone.
To Tamar you can get with touring skis, cross-country skis or sleds.

My generation walked from bus stops, then with cars, now on foot again. They say in the end we do what we did in our youth.nasmeh
Back then in Tamar we also pitched tents, slept in front of the chapel. Nice times those were. There was more bustle in the huts then. Valleys were sometimes really empty, especially outside the summer season.

Anyway, with this valley closing system without parallel services nothing is solved.
And if the road isn't dust-free, it's better that it's closed. I saw cyclists this year riding to Vrata.zavijanje z očmi

Dejan, good ascent you did. Take care.

Damn, it won't let me rest until I comment on this topic about approaches. "dprapr", I sign under your statement about hiking etc. Yeah, it was nice in those times, when late in the evening together, led by the hut keeper in Tamar Marjan, we "roared" his original song: Tamar, Tamar, there under Poncami....
As for closing valleys, we don't have anything arranged anyway (public transport or similar). Namely, my seven crosses really miss free access to the hut in early morning hours, when there's already almost three hours driving behind me and then.... Well, because of that I haven't been in those parts for six years. Access from Vršič to "little king" doesn't outweigh the Tamar one.

I'll comment anyway. I see no rational reason why the road to Tamar is closed. For most going e.g. to Jalovec, probably 2x walking is completely unnecessary. I'd suggest/introduce payment 5-10 EUR for road or parking and let everyone decide how they'll go. With those few km driving we won't save nor destroy TNP. By that logic, Krma, kot... can also be closed. Also on Vršič I'd introduce toll. No need to clean, maintain roads. Clear to all. Best regards!

I don't see the problem. The road is closed. If someone doesn't feel like walking let them drink coffee/beer in Kranjska Gora. Or let them go by car and if there's a fine they'll pay mežikanje

I'd rather go on foot from Rateče than pay 5-10eur for parkingmežikanje

See how different we are. I'd gladly pay a reasonable parking fee if it would allow me to avoid an hour-long flat walk along the road. I don't know what it has to do with mountains.
