Today we went towards the Saddle. To Pastircev we walked on a faint trail, which we extended to the plain where there's a rock with a poem. Another guy followed us, but he had no intention of trampling further...

exwannabe, I pretty much agree with you, this saddle is quite dangerous. For about 15 years I've been going up there in all possible conditions and several times I didn't manage to reach the top. Definitely advise against "inexperienced" since the danger is 3rd level on the European five-level scale - SIGNIFICANT. The problem is right there where SKYMARK is photographing and a couple of meters further where you cross two more avalanche paths. You need to be very careful. But I think Dejan didn't want to underestimate current conditions. True, the guy is CRAZY and has balls, but he's not stupid!

Today I climbed to Kamnik Saddle. You can cross that avalanche below with the help of poles quite safely. Snow quite compact.
To Pastircev there's a nice beaten path and it can be crossed without major problems even without crampons. Quite southern snow.
Above Pastircev today three mountaineers walked and yesterday someone with snowshoes. Lots of snow, it sinks to the knees and more. So without full winter gear I advise against continuing.
But on the summit part it was quite unpleasantly windy and fog completely disabled orientation. Recommend only to very experienced and well physically prepared mountaineers.

That with snowshoes was me. It only went over "two hills" then the slope was too steep and it was necessary to trample. I also dug out the winter room.

The winter room got snowed over again, because up there it blows so much that it covered even my own ascent footprints when I was descending.

Nice greeting,
today 28.2.2017 my colleague and I visited Kamnik Saddle! I recommend the whole path only to the physically fit. To the shepherds' huts the path is even the hardest. Despite snowshoes many sections give under body weight. Colleague with skis managed much easier!
Just before the shepherds' huts we turned out of the forest and continued along Brana. In the middle of KS an avalanche occurred which we used for zigzagging past lone trees for greater safety. Last 100m crusty.
Path relatively safe, physically very demanding but worthwhile.
Descent with paragliders.

Hi!
As already written by hike&fly, the tour is physically quite demanding, I went without snowshoes and often sank over the knees. I followed the path of yesterday's hikers and when I was at the height of the shepherds a big avalanche came from the planina side, it "thundered" for several minutes, so I decided to descend. No wind, temperature a bit below -10 and slight snowing, good visibility but cloudy above peaks.

On Sunday, PD Kamnik is organizing the traditional memorial meeting for the ski and ice axe. Due to unfavorable snow conditions, I doubt that the organizer will carry out this event in the mentioned term.

I know well from previous years that the organizer did not risk the event although the avalanche danger was only level I. I strongly doubt the danger will be zero by Sunday due to the forecasted strong wind in the coming days.

And a report from Sunday's event described a bit higher.
Although I strongly doubted its execution just a few days ago, the organizer decided well and carried out the hike without any avalanche danger on the mentioned route. Real snow starts only at the height of the last parking (1000m). With each step more snow, under the spring already so much that the track is pulled directly into the slope and goes quite to the right of Pastirci. No trace of scree and bushes, Kamrca just sticks out a bit from the snow. All morning dense fog, varying a bit between the hut and the saddle. For the ascent you needed only gaiters and a well-functioning reductor. Whoever ascended as part of the memorial, of course skis or ice axe. For 8€ you got tea, goulash and a nice memorial medal. During descent (just after 13:00) already hearing rumbling of avalanches from Brana.
In the evening I sadly learned about the drama in Mrzla gora, today also in Brana, which happened in the early afternoon.
