Kamniško sedlo

The movement restriction across the entire homeland necessarily required an inspection of the regional area, and so we set off to Kamniška Bistrica and climbed to the saddle. Snow starts above Pastirji. Several tracks have been made. The path is passable without problems. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.si/Kategorije/Novosti/kamni%c5%a1ko-sedlo

Yesterday (Monday, 19 October) via the gully Za Vratam and along the hunting path left above Pastirce to Sedlo and back to Jermanca. Actually I didn't intend to go further than below Vrat; snowy and slippery grasses around there and higher on Planjave meadows these days aren't exactly best suited for wandering. I was only interested in some more comfortable crossing over the scree which above the wooded part at the gully entrance some 200m below Vrat guards the access and annoys visitors. Hoped to find a bypass on the left under the rocks.

The path was ideally dry and snow-free; I missed it once for a few meters (might be that it's not particularly unusual in these parts). Nevertheless I quite quickly reached approx 1480m where the first (shorter) scree crossing starts (characteristic cairn on tree stump). Already previously noticed that a path branches left here transversely towards Pastirci. Followed it along steep wooded and grassy slopes. After some 100m piton in the rock, a bit further a weather-worn wooden ladder helping to nearly vertical grass-covered rock step with good footholds. Passage not particularly hard, just fairly exposed it seemed to me. Descent on it much more awkward than ascent. On top small ledge, from there path through gentler forest.

Descended back to cairn and continued another ca 100m elevation to spot where in spring I went straight up. The scree then seriously hindered progress towards gully or Vrata saddle. Here too bypass path crosses left almost level along slope to notch from which view to Kamnik Saddle opens. And view into proper winter with snow to shoe tops. Scree up under the wall and towards Vrat was heavily bent and tangled from wet heavy snow, so abandoned exploring passage over there for the day. Along well traceable (but somewhat overgrown) path descended to Pastirci and then up to Sedlo. Bit windy, on top wet snow starting to freeze slightly. So in cloudy weather didn't wait long for views and quickly got down the snowy slippery and partly muddy path to valley.

Snow ended a bit above Pastirci. Met four visitors.

Today foggy and very windy at the top of Kamnik Saddle. Sun just briefly lit some peaks. Quite a few visitors despite cold weather at top. Dam was wrapped in thick fog all time. Snow melting fast.
Nice mountaineering greeting.

Since I can choosenasmeh, I chose a day without wind and fog. Road to Jermance, except for two or three small streams b.p. First snow you see above Pastirci, you sink in above Kamrco. Thickness towards the hut increases exponentially and whoever doesn't have good pants, especially on descent, misses gaiters, because the snow is rotten. Due to ideal conditions, I stayed in front of the hut and on the saddle for a full hour. I aired out the winter room and removed snow from the bench in front of the entrance. Few visitors, although there were quite a few cars below.
As usual, I photographed all the surrounding hillsnasmeh

It really captured it well. On pic 15 is Icmankova peč, on pic 16 in the background yawns the Križevnik ridge, I think. But it really looks like Pomol on Raduha. mežikanje

Thanks for the warning, Zoran. I never sat down before the map to check, because it seemed obvious to me that it was Raduha.eek Raduha is of course hiding behind Krofička. Already correcting.
Thanks again to you, stay healthy and best wishes!

Has anyone gone these days from Okrešelj to the saddle? Is it icy or is it normally passable? Thanks

lijaneja23. 10. 2020 17:42:53
Too high temperatures for ice, but definitely not normally passable. As you see the pic above, it's white even 400m lower (Okrešelj)

If you've already walked in snow from Okrešelj to K.Saddle then you don't need an answer. That part at the start in the wall, in the traverse is definitely not to be underestimated

I didn't go below 1000, so the shoes stayed cleannasmeh.
In the morning I tear myself out of bed, the weather forecast doesn't interest me at all, but I grab a wool hat and fleece, just in casejezik. Well, I really needed both only at the top of the saddle, but not because of the cold but because of the strong wind. A thermal inversion is coming; the higher I got, the more the cold penetrated. But there isn't much snow, so the gaiters are unnecessary too.
One day we'll have to go up here too.1

On some sections there's some snow, otherwise generally drivable. Problem only in early morning hours if/when snow is frozen.
