On Saturday when I was there the track was along the summer path, but I did it also via the gully. No new snow, so I'm sure those tracks are still there.

Today it's snowing at Ljubelj, while going a couple of cm fell! Prižnica is ideal anyway for that... to ride something down.

Early in the morning my "better half" and I drive towards Gorenjska intending to "conquer" Stol summit. We actually planned to reach Valvazorjev dom by car but miscalculated as even with four-wheel drive we didn't get beyond halfway since the road ahead is almost impassable except for the hut keeper with chains on his Niva. No big deal. We go back down to Poljana and start on foot from there. The trail in the lower part is quite icy and when it thaws also muddy. In the upper half crampons are almost mandatory as the snow is windswept and hard and doesn't sink in much.
Weather was still very nice in the morning offering great views no wind even at the summit. When returning there was already fog up to about 1700m.
In short a very nice Sunday

A few years ago there was actually a small stool fixed right on top, which on nice weekends (obviously) was always occupied. Because of the fooling around which shouldn't belong in mountains, I kind of think it's right that it was removed.

Aha, Heinz, you locals know better how it is... my guess was that you thrifty Gorenjci pack them away in winter, in summer you can sit on the ground... anyway Heinz, you in your neck of the woods are privileged, surrounded by such beauty that you easily forget chairs.....

I think that stool was preventively (so nobody takes it) just cemented in.
Well maybe safety was also in play – it stood right on the edge. Then imagine otherwise e.g. someone jokingly kicks the other's foot... and off through the air to Klagenfurter hutte for beer!
(that would've been expensive)

Hi. With the group last week we went sledding from Valvazorjev dom towards the valley, we met quite a few cars on the way but the path is quite icy so chains aren't superfluous or 4WD, otherwise you can drive about 200 m along the road towards the hut without problems.

Stol
Yesterday, 12. 3. 2011, a group of seven conquered Stol. Navigation took us to the start  Before Završniško jezero we turned left, after 1-2 km to Valvazorjeva koča, which despite the beam is really welcoming and well-kept, only with extra drives. Road bare only on a few spots for a few meters, otherwise snowy and icy from daytime melt snow and ice. We went on Žirovnica path, crossed it thanks to snow and footprints ahead. Crossing forest line, fog got thicker. At closed Prešernova koča it was windy, more so on summit: windy and foggy. Descent after 1 pm: miracle believed since morning: sun, view of walked path, summit, slightly misty valley. Sun melted snow and frost; on descent to Valvazor sloshing in mud on bare parts. Used crampons on snow areas; would go without but safer with them. Morning Stol view probably not inviting: met only ten bipeds and one quadruped friend. Nice greetings and safe step.

If you didn't have good homemade navigation, you wouldn't find the way to the starting point.

Today with a colleague we conquered Stol. To Valvasorjev dom by car no problem, road fully dry and not at all "ruined" from winter. To "prižnica" almost dry, morning ground still frozen. When we get under Mali Stol, somehow out of the thicket, we take the gully up, colleague soon to the left with crampons along the ridge directly to Stol (which later turned out to be a bad choice), I to the saddle between the Stols and then the usual way to the top. On the ridge lots of wind-blown unfrozen snow and it sinks quite a bit, in the gully pure classic, I had crampons in my backpack but it went without them too. At the top real bliss, almost no wind, if you step a few paces aside it wants to carry you away. Follows the obligatory descent to Prešeren hut, snack, then gully to Prižnica. A bit above Prižnica we go left, since the gully ahead is dry. In midday on sunny slopes the frost on the path thaws and the path is muddy. Surprisingly we meet not a single person on the whole tour today. Wind actually only a bit ahead of Prižnica all the way to the top, same back, rest of the path almost windless and warm.
