We went to Stol today via Žirovnica path. Where the snow starts we turned into the gully and climbed to the top. We descended past Prešernova hut and then down along the ridge of M. Stola. Weather as ordered. Clear, almost no wind, snow just hard enough not to sink in. Road to Valvasorjev dom is, as predecessors said, already bare for some time, in pretty good condition, but very dusty due to drought.

This afternoon conquered Stol, below spring-summer conditions, at the top due to occasional strong gusts of wind - winter ones. Under the "prižnico" there's a fresh pile of logs stacked, so those with too light backpacks, go ahead..velik nasmeh.
Snow starts in the gully around where the path to Mali Stol branches off. Despite the afternoon hour (started from Valvasor at 14), the snow in the gully didn't sink too much, it sank only right below the summit where you have to cross a few dozen meters of snowfield, but you can avoid it too by turning right onto the ridge before the snowfield.

This morning I decided to go to Vajnež. Start from Koroška Bela. I reached Vajnež summit after a good two hours, where I admired the beauties around me. Beautiful spring weather and plenty of time took me further towards Stol, where I arrived after one hour. I didn't go through the gully but cut left along the ridge before it and to the top. Back to start I sped past Valvasor, so I had a nice loop tour that lasted a bit less than five hours. Those who are more "pumped" will need less, for those with a bit less fitness an hour more. But everyone goes their own pace and enjoys every step. On the way to Valvasor I met a diligent guy preparing wood for Prešernova Koča. Whoever goes up and it's not too much, bring a log to the hut so they can cook and heat up there. mežikanje
A little windy on both summits. Paths are bare, except in the gully between Stol and Mali Stol.

On Easter we bagged the highest peak of Karavanke - Stol. As predecessors write, below it's really proper spring already, if anyone is cold you can warm up quickly.., log on shoulder and go jezik. Where snow starts, we crossed the gully and reached the markers for state border and Friendship Mountain cross on dry ground. From there to Stol summit. Weather was really nice and if they hadn't forecasted afternoon showers, I'd probably enjoy the summit longer. Descent on snow to Prešernova hut and on the other side back to start to Valvasor. Despite nice weather, just before the end a thunderstorm, so the day ended pretty weteek. But despite all very nice.velik nasmeh

Yeah, it really was a nice tour. It kept pulling me from Vajnež onwards, so I didn't have to ask twice. mežikanje velik nasmeh

Serajko, Storžič we have planned in the near future, so we'll have the whole "clan" of snakes together....mežikanje, yeah the sunshine did its thing and they came to warm up.
Janc, it's really nice to meet mountain animals, but this one I don't want to meet too oftenzadrega.

Because it can be quickly mistaken for a modras because of the pattern. Only if you look at it a bit closer and if it has a little rose on its nose then it's modras. velik nasmeh Yeah right, I haven't seen them many times, but I'm searching for them to photograph them. velik nasmeh Good luck in the mountains. velik nasmeh

The pattern they have is really very similar. I tried to figure out if it had the little rose or not, but I hurried past it anyway. Just in case... velik nasmeh. On May 1st I was on Stol from Valvazor direction; conditions were similar as described by Sabina1967... new snow only a sample (couple cm)..
