Today, 4.5.2011 I was at Prešeren hut on Stol. We started with a buddy from Valvazor hut and it took us 1:45 to the hut. At Prižnica we saw two chamois too. Snow only in parts of the last 20 minutes. The last 30 minutes were a bit foggy, on the top the sun showed a few times. Above all a wonderful view to Begunjščica and Vrtača.

Today a somewhat longer tour happened: Završnica - Valvasor - Stol - Potoški S. - Vajnež - along ridge top also to Mali Vrh - Hrašenska Planina (Srednica) - planina Stamare - Alničje - along ridge to r.c. Kres - Trebež - Jesenice.
10 hours with all stops.

Valvasor hut also weekdays - open. Morning icy, snow below summit firmly frozen.
Path between Stol and Potoški S. completely bare.
After top of Belščica ridge only one short snow patch under Mali Vrh.
On Stamare and Alničje small cattle grazing.
Met only one single hiker. nasmeh

Long, somewhat strenuous, but definitely nice tour.

today my wife and I were on Stol, and damn under the bench we found sunglasses. whoever misses them should announce here so we arrange how to deliver them. Otherwise very nice but windy up top, small shower on the way back.

Yesterday morning I went from Valvasor to Prešeren via Žirovnica path, back via Zabreška. Kitschy nice day, on top occasionally strong wind as befits Stol, but in lee it was nicely warm as said. There's still quite some snow in the gully, no big issues when walking, on the saddle between Stols still about two meters of snow, signpost not fully peeked out yet. Descent somewhat spoiled by "kurjači" velik nasmeh

- foresters who cut some trees just above Zabreška pasture and lit the remains (branches and stumps). Smoke uncomfortably seeped into lungs and I could hardly wait to pass by. Otherwise OK, just open the hut asap, at least weekends like elsewhere.

Yesterday via Žirovniška to Stol summit, then along ridge over Potoški saddle to Vajnež, descent via Mali vrh to Belščica, past shepherd hut and bivouac to water intake (urbas) then half hour walk on road to goal and start (Valvasor) Path bp, weather couldn't be nicer Lp nasmeh

For the upcoming weekend I plan an ascent to Stol! Valvasor hut below Stol - Stol (Žirovniška path)!!! Wondering if crampons are needed? Is good footwear and gaiters enough??

Both paths are dry. Only in the chute between the Stols there is a patch of snow. To Bojan Ambrožič:
Završniško saddle - Stol: 1:27 h.

This morning I strolled to Stol via the Žirovniška path. The path is mostly dry, except between hut and summit there is some soft snow. Only the hut was closed.

Yesterday a visit to Stol for a change in not the best conditions, at the start rain, then snow which started already some hundred meters below Prižnica, luckily it didn't increase much with height. Higher on the ridge a strong cold wind was blowing, so snow on the ridge is not much, but all is dressed in ice. Like yesterday, today probably completely different nasmeh

Today via Žirovniška: snow still somewhere in Prižnica area and above. New ca. 10 cm, in valley between both S. with old base, nowhere a problem. Morning still icy (walk on top), descent at 10.30 already softened, lower wet and muddy of course. Top windless, lower as usual - stronger wind. Visitors approx. 10. Nice weather nasmeh

Kosiak as in the middle of winter season, but not for long..

Anyone know how the snow is on the path over Zagon? I'm worried the snow patches from Kuclje's pic are far from gone. Thanks and good luck!

No snow on the path over Zagon anymore, if not counting some patches under Celovška špica. On 1.6. I was up there, snow only in Skleda, which you can cross without problem.. mežikanje
