In my youth, we started at Žirovnica train station, so it's almost like going from Vrata to Triglav, of course only regarding elevation gain.

We too rushed on winter memorial hikes towards Stol from the railway line still in the dead of night, arrived with the group to Valvasorjev dom, then if the weather didn't play tricks (northerly wind often spoiled the ascent), went in a column to the summit. There a respectful welcome by the hut keeper to the handful who reached the top, tea and back to the valley.

Yesterday my colleague and I pushed from Ljubelj over Zelenica and on to Celovška koča. Then descended to ferrata entry and up it to Stol top. Returned on upper path past Zelenica and down to Ljubelj. Path ok and well marked, ferrata flawless, heat hellish. Greetings! Lajči

Long long. Probably worst was the heat back towards Zelenica.

How much time did you take from Ljubelj to the ferrata entrance, because I plan to go to Stol via ferrata and wonder if it's time-wise the same as driving to the start on the Austrian side??

If you drive to the Austrian side and park at the upper parking lot (Trate) you have less than an hour to the ferrata entrance. No need to go to the Celovška hut at all, stop by there later during the descent. And if you're used to pathless terrain and easier climbing, I warmly recommend the ascent to Celovška Špica. Wonderful!

Yes "nincokl", as "turbo" says: if you want ferrata to Stol, the walking to the entrance is much shorter from the Austrian side, only the drive there (asphalt, gravel) is accordingly longer... Otherwise a great tour and - on return - at the Celovška hut they understand Slovenian nicely....

Due to poor afternoon weather forecasts we headed straight to the Austrian side to see Stol from the Austrian direction. Weather quite nice for rocks, but huge wind on the summit. This climbing path is quite visited, mainly by Austrians, who nicely follow the instructions for helmet use and self-belaying. Return toward Celovška hut no longer appeals to me, we didn't take away any good impressions from that hut.

Yesterday, my friend and I decided to head to Stol from Ljubelj. Up to Stol on the upper path, back on the lower. Today I'd choose the reverse variant, as the descent into the V Kožnah valley is not very pleasant. The path is otherwise super, just be very careful on the scree ascent. No heat issues, a very cold wind was blowing. The warm sun cheered us on the return to Zelenica.

Hi! Would anyone dare to guess what time over the weekend the parking spaces at Valvazor Hut run out? We'd go to Stol on Sunday, but since we're going with kids, we can't afford any serious path extensions .

What about the barrier they put at the lake in Završnica? Actually there are two, one towards Valvasorjev dom, the other towards Tinčkova hut...

I think if you get to Valvasorjev dom by 6-7 you'll still find a spot. Barriers aren't operating yet, they're there because of "Natura 2000", which covers almost the entire Karavanke

and when will they start closing those barriers, walking on macadam to Tinčkova hut 7km I've already done, but not every time. Will they close all roads.

>and when will they start closing those barriers? The sooner the better. Donat, I'll just go up there when you feel like trudging macadam. Simple as beans.

ejgati, thanks for the answer. Everyone else please, if possible don't let the debate for/against car access flare up again! That's why I wrote we're going with kids - for them we look for paths to attractive summits that aren't too long.
