On Saturday, 01.10.2011, I want to go to Stol. I'm interested if I can join someone, because I don't know the path, and I also don't want to go to the mountains alone... Thanks:041572421 - Mateja

Well, before you're interested in others' measures, better list your own attributes. And not just hiking ones...

Paths to Stol are so well marked even if you take a path up by yourself nasmeh otherwise I don't know where you'll start but anyway. On Saturdays there's usually a crowd of hikers, especially to Stol mežikanje so...

For the first time, I recommend the ascent from Valvazorjev dom

Hmmm, that's how it is: on Saturday I'm all day in Bled, I'd like to use the time and go to Stol. I always go to mountains with colleagues, family, I'd feel safer going with someone more experienced. About the hut I know.

Mateja, the path to Stol from Valvazor is quite visited on weekends if there is nice weather, so no problem, it is a pure trekking tour.

Today on Stol (not quite to the top, Žirovniška). Snow excellent (light, no icy crust), cca. 20 cm, on top probably a bit more. Path not hard to find (now also track nasmeh). On some steep slope can be a bit avalanche-prone in the sun (small slides) but nothing dangerous due to small snow amount, still need to watch out.

Which path to top do you recommend (especially regarding views and photogenicity of "nature"? Thanks..

Today very early on Stol. Wanted to wait for sunrise too, but it was too cold for my taste to sit peacefully, so headed down at 7:20. In the gully between both Stols there's still some snow, just hard enough to ease descent to first bushes.

Given that snow will fall today and tomorrow, I'm interested in the conditions on Stol with the first snow regarding avalanches. Does anyone have experience? I planned Stol for Saturday, but I've never been there in winter.

The Žirovniška path is otherwise heavily exposed to avalanches. Of course, it depends on how much snow there is.

I doubt it'll be smart on Saturday via Žirovniška.., but tomorrow evening, ask at the Valvasor hut (always open). If you choose the safer option (Zabreška), expect breaking trail. Wait a few days for the snow to settle and slide. Looks like quite a bit..

I often go to Stol in the worst possible weather.
And when I get tired, I move to the couch mežikanje

(for fun, with such gloomy weather)
