Today on Stol from Valvazorjev dom, path to prižnica quite icy, further snow dry, only between the Stols harder and in that part quite windy. On return at Valvazorjev dom, first snowflakes awaited me

Road to Valvazorjev dom is normally drivable with winter tires, mostly dry only the last km was icy this morning.

Uuu... I see it was sunny on top today.. super super.. We had a bit of everything yesterday. A bit of sun (in valley or start), the higher we went, the worse it got. It even snowed on top. But no biggie
Road is super as previous said, just last couple 100m (last hill before Valvazor) a bit icy but one can get up there.

Phew, yesterday the path to Stol was long for me. Started at 10.30 on road at Ajdna junction cuz hill after was too icy for my car. Went and first cursed path above forest, icy but muddy too, had only "those big" crampons, small ones ideal. Anyway pushed thru without crampons, more snow ahead easier. Almost at bench (read it's called prižnica???) realized lost hat. Prob cuz I cursed icy muddy path before . Nothing, turn back. Almost down no hat. Girl comes asks if saw hat. Says at forest exit. Oooo!!! All walked path for nothing. Totally demotivated, didn't think go up again. Lost 45 min searching hat down then time up. Girl and guy with skis just going up, thought ok go once more see where get. Went, but motor wouldn't start anymore. Followed girl to Prešernova koča then alone to top at 13.35. Meet radio ham carrying 5kg gear plus all other. Bravo respect! Stay til 13.55, put on gaiters up cuz thought sinking in valley under Stol. But no, hard as rock gaiters not needed. Up neither, snow windpacked and insanely hot for season. At car 15.00, down flew tho cursed that icy muddy bit again.
I had all winter gear, recommend "those small" crampons for first part ascent. "Those big" too much Weather... played games lots people up three skiing .

It must have been a really nice cap, that you walked so far back to the valley for it. You then packed it well and walked around in a white helmet as I remember . I too yesterday on the way to Altemaver left sunglasses on some rock and picked them up only in the evening with the help of a headlamp. Happy 2012 to everyone and many more happy adventures in the mountains.

Yes Flora1 I am, I'm that amateur who is "radioactive" in mountains and hills and drags about 5kg extra gear with him. In the outgoing year active from 114 different summits all over Slo, including some trips to Italy and Austria. Occasionally I'll have to put on a helmet too given the ambitious plans I have for 2012.
I'd almost swear that your helmet is white with black emblem....but you know it's light blue My helmet is really white

Yesterday on Stol. To Valvazor you can get without chains, but with caution, as parts of the road are icy.
Conditions on the path to Stol:
Started one hairpin below Valvazor. Went via Žirovnica path. Conditions to Prižnica variable, some mud, ice and some hard dry ground.
From Prižnica to U ridge (between big and small Stol) conditions very good for walking. Snow light for walking and too icy. On U ridge wind started blowing a bit and it clouded over. When I reached the fork (Valvazor hut on Stol - Stol) I branched to the hut. For 10 min caught in snow storm. At hut wind gusting. Descent to valley fairly calm.
Below Prižnica met 2 hikers returning from Stol. From there no one else.
