Hello,

I'm interested if anyone has been to Stol recently and what the conditions are like?

In the morning with a slight delay I start around 10.30 from the Valvasor hut. It was obvious fog would greet me at the top. And it did, with wind velik nasmeh. At the top due to winter conditions only a short stop, then to Prešernova and back the same way. On descent right at Prižnica I meet a hero in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts velik nasmeh, who due to worsening conditions soon after our meeting turned back. Really coooooold.... damn... velik nasmeh

Yesterday I started at Valvazorjev dom at one in the afternoon. There was no rain, but water was pouring and dripping from trees in the forest, I was completely soaked, the path over roots was annoyingly slippery. At about 1400 meters I noticed individual patches of fresh snow, there the fog also started. From Prižnica onwards (around 1700 m) the path was increasingly dry, no more snow patches.

Just below Prešernova koča the fog disappeared, the heavenly blue sky was completely clear. The reward for the stubborn ascent through fog and clouds was wonderful views of the Julijce, from Kamniške Alpe only a few of the highest peeked out of the foggy cover. It looked like there was still a lot of snow around Triglav. Clouds from the south didn't reach the Austrian side, apparently it's like that, stipulated in the Schengen agreement at Austria's requestnasmeh.

Crampons and ice axe stayed in the backpack, since at yesterday's temperature and amount of snow this gear wasn't needed. In case of lower temperatures and consequently frozen snow all snowfields can be bypassed.

I met around 10 hikers, some still when ascending in the lower part. They struggled quite a bit walking down the slippery path. When I descended later alone, the path was already much drier.

Thanks for nice aerial shots. But that curvature can't be removed?

alpin14. 05. 2017 15:47:50
Lijaneja, actually you could cancel that "curvature" in the camera settings, but then less is visible because of the narrower field of view. For video clips it suits me, so I have it set like that. Photos I make from the video clip. L.p. Klemen

Yesterday from Koroška Bela via Valvazorjev dom to Stol. From there along the whole ridge past Potoški Stol and Vajnež to planina Seča. From there still ascent to Struška and return via Belska planina, past Pustega and Javorniški rovta to Koroška Bela. Nice tour and hot like summer nasmeh

I'm wondering if anyone has gone via the climbing path to Stol - is there still any snow on the path?

Prešernova koča is apparently still closed, but I can't find anywhere when it opens. Does anyone have this info?

acjom - on Thursday I looked towards the climbing path from Vajnež. Looks all clear (though Thursday morning there was a little new snow), and elsewhere on the north side all clear too.
