Yesterday did nice ridge traverse over Vajnež and Stol. Sky alternated haze with sun, light breeze and quite warm up top. Hikers for fingers of both hands, some Austrians, also young Irish couple and Munich woman. Views like from plane, even Bled lake sparkled in distance, lpnasmeh

Up via Zabreška, where snow poses no problems, down via Žirovniška, which is very slippery up top due to melting snow. Carefully, but doable.mežikanje
Met some hikers, even four cyclists. zavijanje z očmi

Could one go up the climbing route? Or is it too snowy?

@čebejla, if it helps, I can tell you that the exit to the ridge was icy on Saturday.

Can someone explain why Celovška hut is "covered"?

Regards, Nino

Stol - Žirovniška? Anyone up there last three days? Track there, right? Snowshoes, crampons, both? Thanks nasmeh

If anyone's heading to Stol, come at least 1.5 hrs earlier and park in Završnica (max at Turkish cave). Can't reach the hut. Ice on road, some small trees down too... Don't know conditions on Stol, didn't plan to go up today. Cheers

This is from yesterday... but until the worsening (i.e., till Tuesday) conditions will probably be approximately the same.

At the lake, a few minutes before 8, the car still showed -4°C, a little higher it warmed up quickly. At Počivalo it was already +3. Well, even higher it cooled a bit again. To the hut there are some nasty very icy spots. Even for those only going to the hut, some small crampons wouldn't hurt. At the hut there is still quite little snow, higher up the snow cover thickens, especially in the gullies.
Although I started alone from the valley, I got a "climbing partner" midway nasmeh
Somewhere around the treeline it was windy, which was not the best forecast for the summit, but luckily the wind persisted only at that altitude. At the end of the steep section, where the gully to the saddle begins, the snow is windblown, the crust icy in several places. It mostly bears weight. Further toward the saddle it breaks through in places, but not too deeply. On the ridge there are of course cornices, so don't peek too much into Austria nasmeh
You practically couldn't wish for a better day1
This section is quite demanding fitness-wise2

Quite a few of them went up via Žirovniška. Conditions for winter gear. Finžgarjeva impassable (dangerous) due to cornices and avalanches. 2 cars at the turnoff to Ajdna, where there's quite a bit of frozen and icy gravel.

I went to check the conditions myself yesterday... nasmeh The plan was a bit further, but Stol called so gently that I couldn't resist. mežikanje
I parked almost at the lake, as the road to Valvazorja is closed. I started late, after 9 a.m.

More snow on the path starts only at 1300-1500 m, on grassy slopes some has melted, some has slid. A local on the path said that you need to be a bit more careful there. Yesterday the temperature was surely above 0 everywhere (even at the summit), the sun was burning like in spring, sky without a cloud and summit almost without wind... a day for short sleeves and winter gear. zadrega

Below in sunny spots snow is very soft and wet, up between summits squeaky, below it frozen, towards the top soft and wet again. It is trodden. The ridge where the hut is is mostly frozen.
