Hi, how much lower than Valvazorjeva hut do you need to leave the car (to plan time-wise, how much the route extends). Thanks in advance.

Half a km lower I left the car, but I think it's already clear to the hut.

On Saturday 21.4. up the Žirovniška path to Stol. Down via Zabreška. Avalanches on the path to Zabreška pasture have not slid yet, so recommend return via the Žirovniška path. Some pics. More at https://gorskimoz.wordpress.com/2018/04/24/se-zimski-stol/

Today on Stol. Up via Žirovnica path, which is mostly dry already. Some patches left, but no problems. Descent via gully to Prižnica (snow). Early morning snow was frozen, so I put on crampons for descent.

On Friday we were the only ones on Stol - in fog, showers and strong wind. Sometimes you have to try mountains even in worse conditions nasmeh

Up and down via Žirovniška. Little snow just below summit, which can be avoided - winter gear thus no longer needed on this path.

Well, I don't know if it helps you, I managed to take this today from the south side, then from the Austrian side fog covered the entire ridge.

On the last picture you can see tracks of hikers, so that says something about conditions.

Today on Stol it was fantastic. From Valvasor up the Žirovniška, some fallen trees, otherwise normally passable to the top of the Prešeren Hut, I'd say without snow or you can avoid it. Of course before the saddle and on the saddle there is still some snow, which can be crossed normally. On the summit no cloud and no wind, met six hikers. The Prešeren Hut was closed, but stayed almost an hour on the bench by the hut. Down via Zabreška, where you see the power of nature, fallen trees and two big snow slides, ... it was nice

Today to Stol from Valvasor. Up Žirovniška, down Zabreška. On the saddle still some snow, but it can be crossed without trouble. At the top it was unpleasantly windy so we didn't stay long. To the car just before the first raindrops.

For the end, a sweet treat at Valvasor :)

Has anyone been on the secured climbing route to Stol these days? Is there still any snow on the path and what is the condition of the fixed protections? Thanks for the answer... We would go to Stol via this route on Saturday 16. 6....

1. 7. Prešeren Hut, Mali Stol, Stol, Potoški Stol, Vajnež, Mali vrh - circular route... Foggy and cold morning. After descending from Stol the fog occasionally cleared and the sun shone. Somewhere halfway on the path from the bivouac to Urbas there are some fallen trees across the trail. A detour and some gymnastics needed. We start at Valvasor and return to the start via Urbas and Potoška planina. nasmeh

Today to Stol via the secured route from Austria. We drove to Medvedji dol (Barental). First we drive through the valley on asphalt. To the parking lot on rather bad gravel. From the parking it takes almost an hour to reach the start of the secured path. To the start of the climbing there's still a bit annoying scree. Then three hours of gymnastics on numerous cables. At the beginning even some C, otherwise A and B. Plenty of footholds and handholds. They've even concreted them - for the footrests I mean. Actually the route runs on the green part of the rock face, well visible from the valley. The via ferrata is beautifully routed and uses the natural features of the terrain. At the top an indescribable crowd awaits us. After a break we head to Mel cirque - a bit annoying descent on scree. Then at the junction before the V Kožnah valley we turn left towards Beljščica saddle. Here we make a short ascent to Svačica (Bielschitza)-1958m. After descending from the attractive summit we continue to Celovška koča on Mačenska planina. Beer of course can't be missed, even though it's expensive. Followed by just a one-hour return to the cars.

Free climbing is also in between. It takes about two hours to climb.

After the via ferrata follows about three-quarters of an hour of ascent - also over scree - to the top of Stol.

One of us guarded our backpacks on the saddle.

On Friday I call Romana at Prešeren hut to see what the weather says. Whatever... but we go anyway, I have a poncho. In the afternoon we set off from Celje, this time via Zabreška. I reach shepherd Marko, it pours like from a bucket, lightning, thunder, sky closed. But in about an hour the weather improves, rewards me with a rainbow and sun. So I go on, I have to, bringing ice cream to Romana nasmeh

. Late into the night we watch the full moon, it was really red. Sleep a bit, in the morning sunrise as if painted. Saturday really rewarded with weather, sun shining fully and views beautiful. Moments you'd stop. Return in the afternoon same via Zabreška. Must say, this path is nicer than from Valvasor. Met only a handful of hikers. All great, batteries charged and see you soon Stol.

Today to Stol via a slightly different route: Valvasor - Žirovnica path - ridge between Stol and Potoški Stol - descent to start of climbing route - climbing route to Stol summit - descent via Žirovnica path. From the ridge mainly descent on scree. The climbing route is nice, varied, very well secured and without difficult sections. But quite long (500m ascent).
