Roadblock to Valvasor (a bit higher than lower ramp)... Ice on gravel... From Žirovnica to Prižnica still ok (recommend basic crampons), further lots of new windblown snow - at least 40cm... Old track but sinks, also small avalanches heard afar. No ascent for few days... LP

Since there are nice days now and it'll be like that the whole week, I'm toying with the idea of going to Stol this weekend.
Does anyone have info on current conditions?

I was there today - it's super! Still can't drive to Valvasor due to ice. Otherwise to Prižnica without crampons, further it's smart to put them on. Regards

On Sunday, 17.2., I was up there. Park at the lake in Završnica, don't drive to Valvasor. Nice track to Prižnica, super without crampons, then winter gully, probably even more frozen now than on Sunday.
At Valvasor they like to scare about avalanches, but really no big danger. On the "meadow" before Prižnica too little snow for anything to slide, gully frozen anyway, go along the top. Windy tomorrow; even on calm days wind between the Stols
Looking forward to the report on how it was...

Chaos123 was at the summit on 22.2.2019. The Valvasor hut keeper warned me about the avalanche and I was grateful to him, as it was my first time on this path in winter conditions and alone. The information was welcome to me. The path is well trodden, without crampons a bit from Prižnica onwards, before entering the basin - valley between both Stols. From there frozen snow, with ice axe in hand pleasant for walking. Return from Stol summit a bit on another path - gully, where I joined the path of the basin between both Stols, past Žirovnica pasture to Valvasor and then to the start - on the MTB path. On the way back it warmed up and sank a bit more, but no issue. Attaching photos from that day.

I was at the summit yesterday too, apart from the wind in the gully the conditions were super. Snow nicely frozen, with crampons from Prižnica onwards no problem.
A few observations..
1: If 10 people here write that the road to Valvasor hut is icy and dangerous.. is it so hard to walk those 30-40 min? If you can't walk, stay home.
2: Cotton tracksuit and chain crampons are not gear for midwinter Stol. Then you wonder why accidents happen.
3: Ice axe... If you don't know what it is, google it.. it can come in handy if something goes wrong.

@Luigi811 I was there today. But only to the hut, because there was such fog, damn! So to the hut there's a track... There's about 10cm of new snow, so no problem even to the top when the nice weather comes
Oh, and snow starts at 1700 meters.

Yesterday up Zabreška path down Žirovniška. Still quite some snow, top real winter. Definitely recommend ascent Zabreška, some snow but no special trouble, on Žirovniška hard struggle to top due to snow.
