Nice pictures you made, @ljubitelj gora. I'm going up there too in these nice days. Hope for something similar .

On Sunday nice walk from Austrian side to Celovec hut, Vrtača also snow-free on this side, must visit it obligatorily in next days. We also observed helicopter, it was right on Vrtača.

Thanks @Katty, I would also gladly return once more, because I started late from home I had to hurry (2 hours). When it got darker and darker I descended to the lower ridge where path turns left and waited there a bit more, then headlamp on and marched to Ljubelj.

On Sunday, 13.11.2011, a military helicopter rescued a sick person from Vrtača (apparently the person felt ill). In Završnica it landed and GRS from Radovljica boarded and took off towards Vrtača. The helicopter took the sick person to SB Jesenice. If I get the video that a friend recorded when the mountain rescuers boarded the military helicopter, I'll attach it up here. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=322345237778896

Yesterday, 15.11, finally on Vrtača . It was a really wonderful day, which ended too quickly. From saddle Šija really nice views awaited us , Stol is like on the palm, Prešernova koča looks like it will tip over downhill anytime, Begunjščica rises above Završnica valley. While climbing the gentler path we spotted a chamois standing on a rock above us (I see it for the first time in natural habitat) . Then steeply straight up pathless and we reached the marked path which we followed down. After a few steps we spotted a family of 5 chamois who were wondering at us hikers. After almost an hour we were finally on top. At that time there were 4 of us up there, soon an older gentleman arrives, then one Austrian. The crows keep us company, which are already standard visitors on top. As said, super views awaited us : almost eye to eye with Stol, Košuta ridge looks completely different from this side, barely visible Julian Alps, far east KSA looking at us. In short, it was really nice, the sun nicely warmed us and offered nice views. Definitely I'll return.

And today something similar: (dry) conditions for ascent to Vrtača are probably the most ideal right now. Worth hurrying. Warm clothes and gloves obligatory, of course.

Yesterday on Vrtača. Can only agree with heinz... Super weather and conditions for walking... Also quite big temperature difference between shady part of path at Zelenica and top of Vrtača, where it was really warm for this time... Super!

It's ironic that some don't even know that you are standing on the wrong summit... "Cepin" isn't ours. Slovenian summit is where the Slovenian summit log box is, right of the Austrian summit Regards!

Where the ice axe is is A summit, one meter higher than ours, a bit ahead of that is our summit... Summit logs are on both summits.

No, probably more attractive to photograph some extremely big ice axe . Even though placed on Austrian summit. Otherwise all probably on Austrian as well as Slovenian summit. I made pics on both, signed only Slovenian book .

I'll say it like this: Regarding summit books, we're far ahead of our northern neighbors, but the reverse holds for placing markers (crosses, ice axes...) on mountain tops, where they beat us completely. They also have quite a sense for it...

Vrtača has at least three summits Austrian, Slovenian and Tržič. Just for info obtained from a local. There are no A, B, C summits on Vrtača...
